Another reason why I'm NEVER getting married!

Yeah up there ^^^

It just depends on what kind of personality your wife has. If you are an idiot and marry a complete loser, like your friend did, wow! Did he not see it coming? Did she suddenly turn from dreamwife to broken-American-dreamwife? I doubt it.

Saying you don't want to get married because your wife will smoke pot with the kids and steal all your stuff is completely ridiculous imo!

FWIW my parents have been married 26 years solid. They aren't the only ones :smug:

Oh by the way... his first wife was the town drunk. She was at EVERY bar, and known at every one. and when she got drunk, she'd turn into a screaming shouting confrontational monster that my whole block could hear, cuz the bitch would make sure windows were open in the home so sound could travel. Real prize winner there.

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!

Nobody here on the board knows the whole story, even the OP.

But the use of the word "bitch" and the use of the possive "his house", etc. show that you don't see the marriage as a partnership, but as something the husband has the right to control.

He doesn't need to know the whole story. Hate never needs the whole story to hate.

Well, since he now believes that we're all "professional liars", I don't think we need to worry about him getting married.

Cherie :rollno:

I saw you signed up for PLU a while back...don't lie!:p

Choose wisely and youll be OK. Just make sure you really know the girl before you put a ring on her finger and start making babies.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner folks.

I'm 30, never been married, and been in not so many relationships.

"Oh, he doesn't KNOW!"

....I know more about what I want/look for in a woman then I ever could have imagined, even 5 years ago..

Yes, I might be a potential "Bachelor for life", but I can guarantee that I have learned some PRICELESS knowledge about women, men, and the way they work together. Being single for some extended periods has given me the space I needed to learn about people from an unclouded standpoint.

I remember this one shop I worked in about 6 years ago....all the guys were at lunch in the break room...about 7 of them, all complaining about their wives - you know how it goes...each one with a better story of how he's in a "bigger jam" than the other.

This one technician walks in - Carl...he's like 50 years old. One of the guys in the room try to rile him up - Carl's a funny guy, so he wants to get him to say something for all of them - you know, like he's going to deliver the punch line for them.

"Isn't that right, CARL???!?!"

Carl: "Well let's see....." as they wait in anticipation "I've been married for the last 30 years, and it's been the best 30 years of my life."

You should have seen their blank expressions as they all realized they had grown a full coat of sheep's fur.

Contrary to many here who think that I've only ever had horrible, scarring experiences or examples with relationships - my own and others I am witness to - my keyboardist in band #3 definitely got it right the second time through.

His first wife is insane. Clinically diagnosed, on medication. She's a fruit-loop. She's completely unstable, to the point that she goes to regular counseling along with their kids. Problem is, it's not because the kids have issues, it's cuz they have issues WITH HER.

Now, in comparison... his second wife is, as the band has dubbed, "HOT WIFE." 5' 2" 110 lbs, looong blonde hair, TOTAL spinner, teaches music in elementary and middle school, worships Dream Theater, loves live bands and actual performances, and can hold her liquor with the guys no questions asked. NOT a lush. NOT dependent. NOT an A.W. And has a sailor's mouth! RAUNCHY jokes, man!

I say, he's a very very lucky guy to have finally found someone who connects with him in every way, and is that nutz about him as he is about her. He was bragging like a mofo last night, "We went to a wedding Saturday, she was a bride's maid. Everyone told me, 'dude, the bride's maids ain't supposed to show up the bride!' Yeah, she's mine, oh yeah, Eric Clapton wrote that song about her. Oh yeah."

In my experiences, I've not found "that girl" that absolutely clicked, and dispelled all the horrible stereotypes and preconcieved fears that I've accumulated from all my failed relationships and all the others I've witnessed. I think I've only met one gal that I think coulda worked, had she not already been married. And I definitely don't expect another gal as amazing as she was to come along and be perfect in every way like my keyboardist found. Those two were absolutely preordained to be together. That's an awesome thing.

But I'd be a fool to expect that kind of luck.

I once joked a looooong time ago, "Oh I'll just marry some uggo from a trailer park just so I'm not alone forever." Nah... I think I'll be quite content being alone forever. I know what I'm missing out. But I'm no longer worried about it.

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!

I must add here, that my neighbor's first wife wasn't an alcoholic from the start, mind you. She just slowly turned into a hopeless drunk as the years went by. 20 years of marriage, and she couldn't deal with stuff, and chose to drown it out instead. But the last 10 years of that marriage wasn't enjoyable. Oh well...

My bad, I approached it with the same sensitivity as your original post.:)

Well finding out my wife was a pot head and my kids robbed me would get my panties in a bunch too, but I agree with most of the posts I've read- If your wife's a town drunk and pot head, you're blind to not know before hand.

But I don't want to get married either. A robbing stoner family would suck, but IMO a normal family would suck just as bad. I love my parents, but I think they're crazy. They've been married 22 years, had two kids, and work every day to simply keep living. It seems like a waste....Call me selfish, but I want to live for myself.

Now I'm not saying I wouldn't stay with someone I liked, I just don't understand marriage *HIPPIE!!!!!* As far as I'm concerned, there are people out there who are unmarried and more in love than people that have been married for an eternity. And beyond that, I know way too many couples that secretly get pissed at each other all the time but say nothing so as to keep the peace. That's just dumb. :rollno:

So yea...marriage is not in my future. (Plus I HAAAAATE kids :spit:)
