I'm just questioning his story the way I don't believe the police did. To be clear, I don't buy it that the police could not have arrested Zimmerman, he could have at least been booked on some sort of suspicion charge. The lack of prosecutions for self defense is probably as political as it is legal. If the officials were suffering negative feedback for the handling of these cases, they would bring them to trial more often.

I don't follow. Are you suggesting that people should be prosecuted for self defense?

I listened to the Zimmerman call again. At the end it sounds like he is looking for Martin but can't find him. Then instead of telling the police where he will meet them he asks for them to call him, so it appears he is wandering around looking for Martin. On foot or in the car I can't tell.

The photos of the neighborhood seem to indicate all the townhomes look alike. I wonder if Martin was lost and that was why he was wandering around looking.

This just came out today:

In four of the recordings Zimmerman called police to report "suspicious" persons — all of whom were black

Another time he calls two report two black teens who match the description of suspects in recent break-in, who his wife saw and identified for police.

I am saying that seriously investigating claims of self defense are probably not worth the backlash for many Florida police. A likely perp is dead, why make work for yourself when no one that "matters" cares? If there were a political will to do so, the police would take a harder look at suspect self defense claims. Remember that for years cops ignored domestic violence cases until women decided not to take it anymore.

I think if more cases of "self defense" shootings occurred outdoors, off the property of the shooter, and under more ambiguous circumstances, more of these types of shootings would be investigated. I have a feeling that not only are self defense shootings probably very rare, but the circumstances under which they're done is probably much more clear cut, I.E. an invader in a home.

I'm sure most self defense shootings are legitimate. I am certain most supporters of self defense and "stand your ground" laws are decent people who don't have ego or penis size issues. For what it's worth I totally suport self defense and the castle doctrine. If somebody breaks into my house, I am going to hurt them. I once ran off a burglar I caught in the process of ransacking my garage. I he jumped into his car before I could crack his head, but I would have whipped his backside if I could have got my hands on him for sure.

I am only worried about shootings that seem suspect to most people and there have been maybe twenty such cases in the last few years.

I know none of us knows definitely what happened, but several of us have given our opinions. What do you think happened that night based on what you know so far??

In answer to guy (since he's on my ignore list)...

1. improper interrogation of the shooter...check
2. witness tampering...check
3. failure to follow up on witnesses that contradicted the shooter's testimony...check
3. failure to test the shooter for intoxication...check

Just because they hand off the case to the state attorney's office doesn't erase their misdeeds in their investigation when it was in their hands.

So, all of these accusations have been proven......these are facts? Or......more likely.......these are you opinions based on a preconceived bias against cops?

Pretty much .. and everyone knows .. you get all you can in the first hours at a crime scene.. sort it out later.. but these guys (S.P.D.) apparently already have an idea of how it went down .. so why distort that with facts..

This man has not even been charged yet.. and there were already complaints about Zimmerman.

The could have arrested him on suspicion of murder, you have a guy with a gun, chasing an unarmed teen that didn't do anything. Let the evidence or lack there of speak for itself, like the OJ case. :)

They have probable cause, just based on the recording of Zimmerman's call alone is enough to hold him for suspicion of murder or any other charge having to do with following and chasing people, until they pull the evidence together to indict. The police can get creative when they want to.
