Another "which pickups should I get?" thread

A wee word of caution, but I've found that older Schallers can become unpleasantly microphonic. I've had a set of PBX and JBX pickups apiece that have been too microphonic to be usable.

Interesting... I scooped up an old set of Schaller Precision pickups on a whim and then left them sitting on my bench for long enough to forget about them.

When I finally installed them in a bass: microphonic and weird-sounding.

Yeah I had a set of those PBX pickups and didn't like them. Sort of similar to Dimarzio Model Ps, but smoother. They just seemed loud and un-nuanced. I wax potted them to cut down on the microphonics. beyond the weird white goop on the back of the pickups I wager that the coils aren't epoxy potted or anything like that.
