Anthony Jackson Health Status?

This is only my opinion, but when it comes to playing bass, not solos, but playing the bass part in an ensemble, no one has ever done it better on a bass guitar than Anthony Jackson. He has all of my prayers and best wishes.

+1000, for your statement and for prayers for his well-being and health. He's given so much.

He plays so rhythmically, with an understated but rock-solid groove,he makes anything from a trio to a full-on orchestra sound supreme.

(His solos ain't too shabby either!:roflmao:)

So this just popped up on my Instagram feed - Epifani reposting someone who got to meet him, looks recent:

How's this for irony:

I fail to see the irony.
Anthony is not REPLACED by a machine--but rather ENHANCED by machines, if you like (audio technology).

AJ is highly respectable, and respected in the Bass and MUSIC community at large.
He too, is in possession of many God given attributes--however, I wouldn't count hypocrisy as being one of them.

Good health and wishes of peace for the brother.

The purpose of a sample library is to have a players tone at your fingertips directly from that player. Thus replace them. Especially if you can't afford to hire them.

You know you are 100% correct on the "use" of a player's Tone etc for use in (likely a far cheaper and convenient) application than "hiring" them directly. Thus in effect, Anthony is replaced by a machine with his "own self". I guess he is cool with that--sampling. I get from what he says that if HE had to go "head to head" on a particular application/session that required Bass--machine or man ? He'd be down for the challenge, and confident that he could "outdo" most machines. In any case--best of health to him--we are exactly only 3 months apart in age and met him in NYC in 1979.

A bass player is Not just a tone!!!
A superb musician like “experience-hardened” Anthony Jackson changes his mental approach to the bass line/morphs his tone also in order to match the song’s, arranger’s, composer’s, background, etc., requirements.
It’s more than just some “tone” emulation!

The thinking that a bass player can be replaced by a tone library is ill founded, IMO. If Steely Dan had been equipped with the Anthony Jackson tone library and not the bassist, while creating Glamor Profession, the end product would certainly have been sadly lacking. If someone is going to use a tone library, then they might as well use the Anthony Jackson tone library. But there's just no way it would be anything remotely as good as what Anthony Jackson would create if he were hired to do the session. (You're entitled to your opinion, and it may differ from mine, but if it does - you're wrong:) )
