Any Blue Steel users out there?

I never hear a peep about blue steel, why? When I stsrsta I used rotosound rs66 then went to blue steel 50-105 for a long time, then eventually back to rotosound.

I feel rotos are more aggressive and raw which I like but of course that dies fast. To me , BS are the next best thing and seem to last longer. There kinda hard to find now . I will be getting a set and refreshing my memory.

Vinnie is just messing with you. "Blue Steel" is from the movie "Zoolander". It is a comedy. Ben Stiller (the guy in the pics) played the main character. He's just having fun.

They sound great (the strings). But steel doesn't work with my body chemistry. Steel strings stick to my fingers pretty bad. They were pretty big when they first came out. I tried to plow through and made it through one set of them until they died. But I just had to go back to nickels.

Hopefully you'll get some serious answers to your question.

If you really appreciate Rotosound 66's sound but want the string to last longer, I highly recommend the Marcus Miller signature Dunlop Super Brights.
I haven't purchased a set of Blue Steels in a few years (5+) but I do recall they had that bright sound which I enjoyed and depending on what was available at the store I was buying strings from, this string would be on my short list. More recently I've gone to a on-line supplier and have found the strings I love for 3 of my 4 basses so I haven't gone back to the Blue Steels.

I just put a set of the Nickel Blue Steels on a Yamaha BB1024X, they totally are the right strings for that bass. My first time trying them, I like them and plan on using them on other basses as I need to change strings. The price is right, the feel is right and they sound pretty great, at least on my BB1024X they do ;-)

I use the custom set G: .046, D: .063, A: .080, E: .102. They seem to last forever, but as of late have been a little hard to find. To me , they are very flexible. Definitely have a rougher texture, but I kind of like it. I have also tried the Marcus Millers, and they are similar in brightness.

This happens, sadly, but it does, seems to happen to me when I buy D'addario's, they are always good about sending me out a new string ASAP...I would hope Markley would do the same.

I'm still a user and feel the same way! They don't get talked about much. I used them a ton in the 90s when I was first learning and love the rough feel and brightness.

Funny because I really don't have super tough fingertips, but when you learn on something, you always seem to use that as a reference point. Tried tons of other strings over the years, but go back to Blue Steel quite often. Ken Smith Rockmasters are similar, just a little less "rough".

Yeah, I use Blue Steel on my Peavey Cirrus 5 Mahogany. I think they pull some harmonics out of the bass I like.
