love the black pick guard on that Midnight Wine P-bass....I may have to swap out my white and try black

ANY love out there for MIM's?

It is a recommendation for anyone with a midnight wine Fender bass/guitar. Looks amazing. I might try tortoise one day but black is very satisfactory right now.
My updated P-Bass has the BAII, GHS Boomers rounds, and extra holes for a thumbrest I occasionally install
thanks.....that is an older shot, when I 1st got it...I have put on a thumb rest....oh and new knobs...I should up date that pic
... that was part of the 'upgrade' that took place in '08, along with heavier tinting on the neck and headstock, moving the serial # to the back/ 70's style Fender logo on front of headstock ...

Only thing that needs updating for me is the pickup. Most likely a CS62 or a Quarter Pounder

I have two MIM Fenders and they are both good basses. The FSR Antidua Jazz is just excellent and my old 04 Agave which has been modded a bit.
60s Custom Shop pickups (dropped straight in), BA II Gotoh reverse wind vintage tuners, Schaller locks, mint 3 ply guard, sanded the fret board edges smooth and filed the fret ends down (they were dangerous). Didn't need to upgrade the pots and cap- they are fine.
Here's a pic.

my '01 has the longer bridge pup
yup, note the date stamp in the neck pocket, July 26 of '01 .. this is past the mid '01 point that I mentioned above, and would probably have been entered as a completed bass into the Fender system early in August '01 ... these are considered changes made for the '02 model year, which also happened to be the first year of the 4 year run for Blue Agave as an offered color ... your bass will also have the solid shaft pots, top-hat style set screw knobs, and the raised A & D pole pups to fit that longer bridge routing .. and an alder wood body ...
I spent a day at GC a while back just trying out basses. (It was great, took a day off work, got there first thing Tuesday morning, had the whole place to myself) Anyway, got the bass guy in on it, had him show me the different models, explain MIM vs MIA vs MIJ etc etc.
After playing everything from the higher end MIA to the cheapie Squier I got a MIM Fender. It was just as good as the MIA and was 1/3 the price. I got no problems with MIMs and mine was a 96 fiver.
Just don't try out any Ibanez SR's.

I don't have a single problem with MIM Fenders at all. My 2012 Jazz is a fine instrument. Looks great, sounds great, sets up fast. The fretwork was great right off the rack, all crowned and level. I replaced the original pickups with Quarter Pounders and now feel like maybe I should have just left it stock. But, it's done now. I have TI Jazz Flats on it right now and I can dial the action in nice and low- just the other side of too low- with no buzzing. The extra headroom I get from the Quarter Pounders lets me roll back the neck pickup and the tone, and get a good, mellow, woody sound out of it without sacrificing much low end. I like playing this bass just as much as my German Warwick, my MIA P and my Rick 4004. I almost have to put them all in a circle, spin around blindfolded and point at one randomly to see which one I'll take to band.
@OldCityBassman…head on over to the Fender Blacktop Club in my sig. There's no shortage of praise for these "outside the box" MIM's. 
Outside the Blacktops, I agree with everyone who showered love upon the MIM Classic '70s Jazz. drool
Mine was fantastic…so much so that, when I needed to sell some gear recently, I sold the Blacktop's neck and the '70s Jazz's body. Now the remaining body and neck live in an excellent state of harmony, which is deliciously ironic. Now I have the least expensive MIM body matched up to one of the most expensive MIM necks! This does wonderful things to my personal sense of symmetry.
