Any mountain bikers??

I use to work in a bike shop and all the forks brand needed some kind of tools for special duties.
Snap ring , O ring , seal , bullets , etc....

I can un-mount and tear apart my Lefty and will only need a Castle tool to remove the cartridge , everything else is standard Shimano. (Park tools)

BTW , a BB , a chain , a head set , a crank arm etc .. will all need special tools.
I didn't mind buying one for my fork.

There's a difference between specialty tools and proprietary ones. ;) I have a pretty standard kit of Park tools and I've been able to service recent forks from Fox, Marzocchi and Rockshox without any part/manufacturer-specific tool. Maybe I spoke too soon and that tool was something used across multiple brands, but I don't think so. First time I've ever heard of a special tool to remove a rear shock. :D

Agreed

Talking about speciality tools,Shimano is the king in that departement.

How many tools do we have wich were created by new Shimano standards :spit:

When I look in my tool kit , I got some tools for my Rohloff hub , 3 different (!!!) for SS free hubs , 3 for different BB types , the castle tool for Headshock/Lefty , for the Mavic Wheel (bearings) , etc.....
Looks like it never ends !!!!

Hey, does anyone here have any experience w/drum brakes? I'm building a couple of clunkers for my kids- one will be based on an old Schwinn cruiser frame, which I don't want to add braze-ons to but do want decent braking. Sturmey-Archer hbs would *look* great, but I want to hear some real-world feedback before shelling out & building wheels.

I run them on my winter commuter , IME it's the best thing for snow in the city.
It brakes bad (compared to disk or well tuned VBrakes) but consistently bad. Doesn't fade out like rim brakes , or no need to "pump" like disks.

I run a Nexus 8 speed with drum brake in the rear and an old Nexus in front but Am looking to change to this:

Sturmey-Archer X-FD Front Drum Brake HUB 36h - harriscyclery.net

My old front Nexus is really bad compared to the recent one I have in the back.
Haven't tried the SA yet so can't comment.

LOL! Yeah, man. It's just too much fun!!! I feel much more confident in my riding and I've always been one to set goals for myself in anything I do. Leisure riding is cool but I like to push myself which I think racing will certainly do. If you have time you should come out. April 28th @ Webb in Claremont.

Get that bad boy built up! Then post pics... :D

Hello everyone! Hope everyone finds themselves doing great. So, I'm gonna be competing on my first ever DH race. I've been practicing the course over the past month and I feel good. Very excited and kinda nervous at the same time. :D

DH racing is intense. I did it for a few years but found I didn't enjoy my self-imposed expectations and I was always a bit worried about getting hurt. Also, standing around and waiting your turn got old fast.

Concentrate on a nice clean run. Don't hit features way faster than you're used to doing and suck up any jumps. You're better off not running the whole race right at your limits and staying on the bike. Crashes and get-offs are costly when you're on the clock. :D

How long is the course and what is it like?

I just put my summer tires on the rims and I realized I have a big gash in the sidewall of my rear one. Perhaps now is the time to buy the Schwalbe Hans Dampfs I've been eyeing and convert to tubeless...

Did you try asking on the Cannondale forum on MTBR?
I have asked in several threads- I think I'm kinda the new guy over there, although I joined a couple of years ago.. :atoz: I started a specific thread as well as mentioning/asking outright in *Single Speed* & *Vintage* threads, got a little bit of help. The damned cannondale *find a dealer* led me to a shop in Woodland- close to home, but not a CD dlr. :spit:
