I was thinking today that it would be nice to have an amp that has a built-in tuner and compressor. Then I could use that as a all-in-one to take to gigs or practice at home, same rig. I could just take that and use the DI if it's a IEM gig or bring along a cab or two if needed. Completely ditch the pedalboard, all I would need is bass, amp and maybe a cab or two. I think only the Bergantino B|AMP checks the boxes. Are there any others? I guess a Helix and powered cab would do the same thing. Sub out the Helix with Quad Cortex's unobtanium and I'm sure there are other modelers.

+1 on ditching pedalboard. My only two pedals are compressor and chorus but I usually don't bother bringing them because of the inconvenience. Would love to have at least a high quality compressor built into an amp that I favor.

DNA has a built-in compressor but no tuner. Going with a mini rack with a tuner wouldn't be the end of the world.

I guess a bit of wisdom would be to wait and see if there's anything new at NAMM, if the NAMM show is still relevant at all.

I would gladly trade the " contour " knob on bass heads for a variable HPF, or compressor.

I took a look at that amp for the first time.... came to a simple conclusion....

I'm really old.

I seem to recall MarkBass trying something similar, but I’m surprised no manufacturer has embraced the 500 series euro rack system and put out a modular type amp. I’m envisioning like a 2,3, or 4 space headshell, then you could load up whichever flavor pre and power amp and effects you wanted for that rehearsal or gig.

My question would be "where do you draw the line between want and need for these items?" More specifically what I mean is; Could you not get by without a compressor, or is it truly a need for some reason? I would think a head with a tuner would accomplish everything that's needed for most trying to accomplish this whereas a compressor would be icing on the cake if you wanted compression.

Yeah, I thought about that but was trying to stick with the OP’s apparent intention to limit as many devices as possible. A clip-on tuner is super simple to throw in a gig bag but is still technically one more thing to bring on a gig all the same.

Here's a good alternative to a head tuner. Just turn the volume down on the bass, tune, then turn it back up.

I'm with you there. If I were to be gigging again that might be my first choice.
But then I'd need a couple of weeks of messing about with menus before I'd feel comfortable.

You could go the route of a single pedal preamp with compressor and tuner, then just a powered cab.

You could prolly set up something pretty awesome like that with an API-style lunchbox or Radial Workhouse cube rig. Put an awesome DI, pre, etc in there, like a studio bass front end. Maybe not the power amp part, but ya never know. Or just have a powered cab.
