any smokers switch to Vaping yet? [PART 2]

Well, I was smoking a carton a week - $240 a month. I've spent about a month and a half worth of vaping stuff, but should have everything I need for a LONG time to come (except liquids, which are cheap). As long as I don't fall off the wagon, it will be much cheaper in the long run.

One of the biggest myths about vaping......."I'll save a lot of money"......yeah, right. :D
I'm sure that there are lots of myths about vaping, but that ain't one of them. Truly conservative estimate...I believe I've saved $1500.00 in 14 months...and that's in a state where you can buy a pack for about $5.00, not up north where a pack can cost up toward $15.00.

I'd just like to thank you guys (especially James Hart) for the information in both threads (pts 1&2). I've been a smoker for 40 years and was unwilling (and too broke) to make any investment in vaping. Two months ago, I picked up a Vuse kit then a week later, received a free Mark 10 kit. Shortly after, my son (roommate) picked up a Vuse.

I wasn't able to make a cartridge last as long as a pack of smokes, but my son was able to make his last longer. I then learned on YouTube how to jailbreak the Mark 10 and add my own juice, which was even cheaper but even less satisfying. Something was missing, but I had no intention of going back to smoking. I used to cough like crazy and now that's nearly gone and I feel way better. I haven't had a cigarette in three months.:hyper:

Yesterday, I picked up a Fumigo 1100 and a better atomizer. It's still in the testing phase, but I think it's gonna work just fine.

Thanks again for all the info you guys provided!

Good for you. Keep at it, but if you slip, don't worry too much. Just remember how it's cheaper in the long run, and maybe even healthier. I'm into year 3 now. I went from 24 mg/ml to 6. I got lucky and found what works best for me early. Some people take a little more time to find what they want/need.

Anyone DIY liquid, I just started my first batch came out pretty good, a cinnamon vannilla custard. It's crazy a month ago all I vaped was menthols high pg 12mg. Now I got the subtank nano and vape high VG 70/30 and just 3 mg. it's nice saving on juice and coils.

DIY liquid, that's something I hadn't thought of yet. Liquid is getting to where it is eating me alive and I can't seem to find anything that isn't some kind of custard anymore. If I was to do a single flavor, like orange, and add menthol to it, it would be a pretty straight forward process?

Fruity menthols used to sound so gross to me until I tried them. That's how I expanded my palate beyond just menthol tobaccos. You can buy even menthol crystals save a ton.

The process is straight forward some trial and error to see how much or how little flavoring. Just download the juice me up calculater and it's easy. They literally tell you how much of each ingredient to use based on your PG VG blend and nic level.

But especially just orange and menthol it's mad easy and there are speed steep methods my favorite is the crock pot. Set your crockpot to warm place the bottle(s) in fill enough so they stand (don't submerge). Shake heat two hours shake and heat another two. Fruits I would do 1-3 hours deserts 2-4 hours tobacco 4-6 hours. Each hour is like a week of steeping this can be useful not just for diy. Bullcityvapor and wizard labs are two good sites for diy supply. Both good prices bull city has faster shipping wizard lab has a little bigger selection but slower.

like orange, and add menthol to it

I vaped some juice a while back that was lemon menthol... interesting combo. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it, but if it was offered to me I would vape it again.

I'm still vaping the same 3 flavors, Single Barrel Jack has become my all day, Sweet Cinnamon is still a go to between the Jack... and Hummingbird fuel is an every few days kinda thing.

I forgot what all they told me about coil building at the vape shop, but what's a good rule of thumb for coils building coils, like diameter-wise and such?
I should probably check the ohms of my coils, because I like what i have and want to stick with that, but I'm starting to taste metal in my vapor.

EDIT: I checked my coils...1.8 ohms, for 2 coils in.

I have really small RDAs so I fold some of my ribbon Kanthal in half with the fold around the hook of a dental pick. I twist it tight then do a single mini coil with a pinch of cotton wicked through the coil. I change my cotton every week or 2, coils 4-6 months. I aim for 0.8ohm and they hit great for me.

I was, up until very recently, only building single micro coils. I was aiming for 1 ohm, and it was really working for me. I just decided to try out a few new things recently, and I'm happy with the results. I can see myself going back at some point, though. I may end up building single paralells.

Anybody know of an effective way to clean coils? I'm using a Kanger Protank II which I like a lot but would love to get more than a month or so out of a coil. I've tried hot water, high pressure, even an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner with a soap solution, then acid, no result. Can't get the carbony gunk out. Is that just the way it is?
