any smokers switch to Vaping yet?

Not open for further replies.
so what is the idea here? To taper off and eventually quit nicotine all together, or to just stop smoking cigarettes but keep the nicotine intake?

I will admit I haven't read all the pages in this thread, but I'm not sure what the point is. Is it just to stop putting smoke in your lungs, or get off nicotine at some point all together?

Hey fellow vaper bassists!

Two questions:

There's a ton of info to trawl through here so I'm being lazy ;) I used to order online, getting liquid and cartos. Liked it but the cartos crapped out over time so I've just been getting logic cartos at the local store which gets pricey. I think I want to go tank based but I want something fairly low profile and on the side of lower maintenance. Any suggestions or can you point me to a post that spells it out?

Also ill be traveling via plane in a month or so. Anyone have issues w security and their e cigs?

Thanks in advance!

Fishtx, people do both. I switched to stop smoking analogs, and use low-nic juice (6mg/mL). However, I plan to eventually go to zero nic juice because I simply enjoy the flavor and sensation of vaping.
IIRC, e-cigs are no longer considered methods to quit but rather an alternative delivery system of nicotine, minus the main unhealthy factors of analog cigs- namely combustion byproducts such as tar, CO, and the questionable-at-best additives big tobacco is so fond of...

I'm pretty much down to 0% nic, (only because I'm getting very low on juice), and I've been diluting it down with VG. I still have minor cravings, but I figure with my next batch, I can thin it down to about 3-6 mg\ml and be fine. :D

E-cigs cannot and will not advertise as a stop smoking aid due to legal bs, so they are considered a harm reduction system. They will help you stop "smoking", because you then become a vaper. You can still get the nicotine you want, but as mentioned, you control the dosage, not BT, or HC, or the FDA or whatever group controls these things in your given country. There are those (not so) cheap OTC e-cigs, that have no nic, and are disposable, but they cost almost the same as (if not more than) a pack of analogs. I've seen Vapurs (0% nic) ones here for ~ $9.00/500 puffs (they claim) Premium smokes are > $10/25, while budget brands are ~ $7.00/25
There are a few stores that have nic carts, and those are ~$7-8/10 and they only have a small amount of juice in them, but they only fit a certain brand if e-cig. I had some, and used about 1 1/2/ day.

There are a lot of options with e-cigs (or APV's, or as one person put it, P.E.N.I.S.'s) so do your due diligenge and find out what's best for you. Not too different from basses, actually. :D

what power source are you using?

if you are still using the 510 stick batteries, i would say upgrade, or try the Kanger t4 clearos. they are kind of like a t2 or a ce2, but easier to fill, and they don't work half bad. my little sister uses them when she isn't dripping on a 306 or smoking.

if you are using ego style batts, try out a Kanger EVOD. i know it is a smaller T3, and holds less juice, but in my side by side testing - the EVOD out performs the t3 drastically.

if you don't mind a larger tank, or have a box or tube mod, get a Kanger protank. pyrex & stainless bottom coil, can be had for 15$ online if you shop around. flavor is almost on par with a genesis or dripping, vapor production is unreal, they are quite easy to rebuild - the concept is about the same as changing strings ... my protank is my all day vape right now.

vapors-choice.com has them for $15 even. i think replacement heads are 1.50 or 2$ ... i popped a head dry burning it clean on my vamo like an idiot - never dry burn on a PWM mod.

smokerevolt.com has some great deals on some mods right now - they are clearing out for new producys. you can get a VV gripper style box for under $30 iirc.

Anybody know where to get 16340 batteries? Madvapes is out of stock, and so is Great Lakes Vapor. I tried a local battery place and he told me that size battery was being discontinued. He didn't have any either.

Thanks, I guess I better stock up if it's true that they are going to be discontinued.

Wait, what???

and as far as i know, 16340 / 123a won't be discontinued - the military uses them for EVERYTHING. his distributer might not carry them anymore though.

Agreed! the shop or distributor is maybe no longer stocking them, not discontinuing by ALL manufactures.

I only buy AW IMR 16340... I've bought from here [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Thanks for the reply!

I have both 510 and eGo style batts, but am considering starting from scratch...

I'm thinking of something like this one:

Comes w 2 batts, clearomizers, 5 spare coil heads and charger.

All I would need is ejuice I think. Seem like a good way to go for the 'casual' vaper? Seems fairly low profile compared to the mods but a little more robust than the stick types.

And anyone have input regarding traveling via airline w their vape gear?

Thanks again for your help!

bit better of a kit - a pair of 1000mah joye twists, a pair of kanger t2's, charger, case, 15ml of juice, for a few $$ more. pick up a couple of evods as well, and you are rocking for under $70. you might not want VV right now, or think you would use it, but since i got my wife a twist, i catch her tweaking the voltage, and starting to appreciate a warmer vape on a regular basis.
she even changes the batteries in her bolt before they run cold now. pretty soon she will be ready to put a kick in it.

Definitely like the looks of that. Is there something similar to that in a VV? Also what's a 'kick'?

Thanks again for helping this newb.

those are VV - they go from 3.2 - 4.8v, in ego form factor.
i use a 1000mah stainless and a 650mah black twist every day, in addition to a vamo and an ego 18650 mod ... the twist, with a t3 or evod on it is handy at work when i have to go to the other building, and get to walk outside for quick vape there and back.

the kick is a drop-in variable wattage controller (set it and forget it) for 18xxx series mods. it takes up 15mm of battery space though - if you drop one in a mechanical mod that takes a 18650 normally, you will only be able to use a 18490/18500 battery.
evolv only warranties if you use AW IMR batteries with them however - the kick requires high drain.

my wife has a bolt - it is a clone of the silver bullet from altsmoke ... they normally take a 18500, but have an extension ring to allow use of a kick or a 18650 battery. you can also stack 2 rings, and use a kick AND a 18650 for a couple of days worth of regulated, protected vaping.

I'm gonna go for that 1000 mah kit you recommended. Any feedback on the e juice they carry over at vapers choice?

Tim makes his own. caramel apple, key lime, strawberry banana are all good. people RAVE about his mango. my cousin that smoked menthols likes his arctic chill. my wife likes caramel apple with chill added ... it's ok, but i hate menthol ... so a bit jaded.

steer well clear of the tobaccos ... they are all perfumey and rubbery. the cinnamon caramel tobacco tasted like vaping my grandmother's purse. the orange creamsicle tastes like goo gone. i haven't bought juice from him since i started to DIY ... i would go for a simple fruit. oh - the grape is purple enough to suck the light out of a medium sized room, and kills atties.

Hmmm interesting. So getting into the whole mod thing is really to extend battery life I gather?

to extend battery life, yes. but not entirely. variable voltage mods with larger, higher drain batteries can handle higher amp loads. most egos will start to crap out at 2A. my VAMO has a 5A limit. most lavatube clones have a 3-3.5A limit. so, trying to rock a dual coil 1.5Ω carto on a ego twist - it might work for a little bit, but likely, you will fry the control head. ego's are all PWM - but regular egos are stepping a 4.2 (full charge) battery down to a regulated 3.7v. the twists add a boost circuit to the already present buck circuit, and give you the abililty to go up to 4.8v. personally, i wouldn't fire anything lower than a 3Ω load at full blast on the twist ... it will shorten the life of the internal battery, and possibly the control circuit itself. my first twist died to a constant 1.5Ω load from my dripping atty. it just can't handle that high amperage. both of my KGO batteries died around the same time as well, slow shorts from failing coils.

So after 30+ years of smoking analogs, my wife and I are taking the plunge.... We got a couple of ego twist starter kits. I'm liking it so far, and it really suppresses the urges. I am a pack a day smoker, but still opted to go with the 11mg. So far so good! :hyper:

twist starter kits are my first recommendation to long time smokers. i've been off tobacco for a year and a week now - and i still use my twists daily. i started with much higher nic, but after the first 8 weeks i didn't have any issues starting to wean the levels down. i think once i get through the 300ml of base i have mixed already, i am going to drop us from 12mg to 8mg.

and as far as urges go - when i started vaping, i was on a pretty strict smoking schedule - and i had JUST changed positions, which let me slip out back at work a little more often. i went from 2 smokes 4 times a day, to a smoke and a vape, then when i moved to Desktop and got more freedom, i just quit taking smokes with me.

didnt know there was a vaping thread here. been vaping for 2years. stopped analog cigarettes 2 years ago. i currently use provari and a tvs mod. my regular joytech ego 650 mah just broke. i rarely assemble my ERA rebuildable atomizer. 510LR is good enough for me. my vape stuff is more expensive than my sx precision and jazz basses hahahaha.
