any smokers switch to Vaping yet?

I smoked 3 packs a day from 5th grade till I was 30. Quit 20 years ago. Yeah, I'm that old but give my video below another hit please and tell me I don't look it. :)

I'm intrigued by these things, almost tried one at the mall while xmas shopping. They had a demo booth. I decided I'm going to wait 10 years or so to see if anyone grows a 3rd lung or something similar from smoking them. If they check out ok and people aren't coming down with some never before seen ailments I think I'll give them a go. I liked nicotine. There were many times I enjoyed smoking. I absolutely despised the addiction though. Cigarettes owned me.

Quick story of something that really got me angry at cigarettes and showed me how powerful they were. Was 4AM, don't remember where I was coming home from but I was beyond exhausted. Cldn't keep my eyes open. It's virtually impossible to park where I used to live, and I got super lucky and found a spot right in front of my house. Just before getting out of the car I remembered I had no cigarettes left. Nearest open store at 4AM was a couple of miles away. I HAD to give up the spot and go buy cigarettes. I didn't have a choice. It absolutely HAD TO be done. My tiredness at the time, and having to search for parking after that really drilled home how much those f-ers owned me. And I didn't like that feeling. That, plus a thousand unsuccessful attempts, and an upstairs neighbor dying before my eyes of emphysema all helped aid my finally quitting.

i'm where you are man. my wifes father passed away about 4 moths ago after a bout with lung cancer. the cancer didnt kill him but it sure didnt help. now we have relocated to help her mother with the day to day operations of our farm when i'm not on the road and it just seems disrespectful to me to smoke cigs in the chair he used to sit in... i have quit 3 times for multiple years each but the ritual always seems to suck me back in... this just may be the perfect solution!

Well to me this is still an addiction... I make no claim or excuse against that fact. Vaping owns me. I will say I feel 300% better, I no longer stink like an ash tray, my sense of taste has returned and instead of dumping $135 a month on cigs, I'm wasting about $5 a month on nicotine and flavor infused vegetable glycerin.

Time will tell, but it's been 117 days since my last cigarette. I have had ZERO desire for one in that entire time. I went into this educated and informed... my nicotine level was instantly maintained by vaping, all rituals (other than lighting a smoke) are satisfied 100% for me.

I have dropped from 24mg to 16mg strength with my fluid. I may drop down once more... I still find I can give myself a buzz if I'm vaping heavy.

I only smoke VERY occasionally myself, but I find myself smoking only hookah pipe now. Partially because I can only smoke at home this way, and I find myself not wanting to smoke outside for some reason.

But yeah, you can now get e-cigs here in a normal pharmacy and they seem to be getting more and more popular too. Mostly because there's a ban in place here which stops you from smoking in an ' enclosed public place' which means you can't even smoke in a bus shelter without risking a fine.

I needed a way to organize my 'stuff'... so I bought a block of Maple Burl off ebay

I proceeded to sand it with a block using 60, 120, 220 and 400 grit papers

I then used a 1.5" forstner bit and my drill press to make a couple holes

finally used some Tung oil applied with 600 grit paper and tshirt scraps... a couple times

I think I may do one more coat... but I think it's close to done. What do you think?

I've never tried the electronic cigarettes and don't think I will. To me, in my opinion, it just seems a trifle silly - I'm not sure if I'd be able to stop myself from laughing if I saw a guy using one in public.

I'm sorry. Stupid, I know, but what can I say? Image still matters to me. I think it has something to do with being 23.

That said, I'm working on quitting cigarettes, because I hate the little *****. Can't stand the taste, the smell, anything. My problem lies in that while I despise cigarettes, I still love smoking - so what I'm doing is transitioning to cigars, with the eventual intent of someday quitting smoking altogether.

I'm aware, of course, that cigars are just as bad or worse than cigarettes as far as health is concerned. But they do have a few key advantages - one being that they often take 20-30 minutes to smoke, thereby making 'convenience' or 'boredom' smoking impossible. I also don't make enough money to not seem pretentious with one, so this makes hanging out at the smoker's corner at work impossible if I want to keep moving up in the business. They're extremely strong, too, in that even though I enjoy them, they hit so hard I don't actually want to smoke two in a day, and lastly, the sheer expense (I go for Cubans exclusively) means that I'm not really too keen on smoking one every day.

I used to smoke about half a pack a day. It's now been about a week and a half since my last cigarette, and in that time I've gone through three Cohibas, a Montecristo, and three or four Captain Blacks.

I think I'm making headway.

good for you...

FYI: One full sized cigar has about as much tobacco as a pack of butts. Also, the manufacturing process of a cigar required a fermentation period that produces a high concentration of TSNAs (known carcinogens in tobacco). Add that to the fact that the 'wrap' on a cigar stops complete combustion of the tobacco which also increases the toxic chemicals they produce.

I know.

We all gotta start somewhere though, right?

Based on your library Jim, I'd have thought you'd have shaped that maple block into the shape of a Sovtek 12ax7 ! :)

kinda seems like quitting beer by switching to whiskey... but if it's how your mind sees the way out, good for you!

Well, the most successful cessation attempt I ever made to date - lasted almost two years - was by switching to pipes. The sheer inconvenience of it brought me down from a pack a day to a bowl a day in two weeks, then to a bowl on special occaisions only, then to never inside of a month.

Unfortunately I'm under a lot of pressure from work, school, health, and music right now, so I just don't think trying to ditch tobacco entirely is wise at the moment. And I know that if I went to vaping I'd be chuckled at behind my back by the smoker's clique in the office, which would hurt my hopes for promotion. So I'm doing what I can.

More power to you for taking the healthy choice! I wish I could bring myself to try vaping - seems like it's the better way.

that is truly sad... FWIW, I switched to vaping after watching at least 30 other coworkers in the smoking shack make the switch. So many smokers have made the switch that they've put up a new vape shack so people can vape without stinking like the analog smokers :)

I have to carry business cards when I'm outside in public places... I always get at least 2 or 3 people asking me about vaping when I'm out places I can do it freely.

Two friends of mine use one i tried it and it's not bad.
Certainly smelling like coffee creamer is better than tobacco.

I quit outright but might actually pick one up for parties where I miss the social aspect of smoking but not coughing up the brown crap that comes after years of doing it.
