Anybody hate talking/listening to small talk all the time?

A couple of days ago a small-talking, new neighbour had me cornered so I asked: "Are you into computers?" He was gone in under 30 seconds.

If someone wants my time then they'll have to speak in terms of our mutual interests. Otherwise we both have better things to do.

I used to like being around people until I started listening to them. Then I had to start drinking to put up with that.

Eventually I had to give up drinking and people. Both were just too stupid and toxic.

Add television to that list and +1. Although, I do still need to interact with people, obviously. Can't survive without them. I just keep it to a minimum and go about my business.

Ironic in the Alanis Morrisette kinda way?
Not an English major, but I'm pretty sure that a starting a thread in TBOT about the trivialities of small talk qualifies as bona-fide non-Alanis-Morissette irony.

This is TalkBass, nothing but important matters, like smalltalk and ones aversion to it, get discussed here.
Truth! (and not irony) :)

I have got worse over the years. I cant wait to get out of the house, but 10 minutes later I cant wait to get home. To many stupid people out there and, I don't care to talk to any of them. I am out the door of a gig faster then the guitar player can order a drink, I cant stand being around drunks that are yelling in your ear. I could be happy living in a cave away from anyone!:hiding:

I'm definitely introverted. I don't like small talk with anyone, even when it comes to my friends. I'll sit and listen to what they are saying without any problem really, but I rarely give my 2 cents. Most of the time my replies are "mhmm" or "i know what you mean". I'm starting to think they think I'm some big *******, but I just really like to keep to myself. Parties? Not going to happen unless I know everyone.

I thought I just hated people. I don't know if its because i'm
introverted or because I just have no interested in meaningless
chatter.

I don't expect to jump into a profound conversation about the meaning
of life with people I don't know but I don't care about the weather either.

One could use talk about the weather to segue into a conversation about the meaning of life.

Im kind of in between introvert/extrovertedness, but more of an introvert.
I dont care for small talk, but I do like to socialize to a degree.
I love parties, large groups of people, and group activities, but am often still inside my own head more so than talking to a bunch of people.
I have plenty of me time to recharge, and am often looking for opportunities to get outside of my own box.

Matticus, once again, I've noticed we are very similar. I would have been able to word it better myself.
I will give an agree and a double-true to you, sir.

I used to not really talk to anyone if I didnt have to...and in turn I think I developed some social anxiety issues. Eventually I just decided I really needed to enjoy the world a little more and made myself socialize with more people. I'm very happy that I did. Now I can go into whatever kind of situation that comes up and still be comfortable.

How do you guys interact with crowds or mingle at gigs without smalltalk? Just a "hey thanks for comin" and thats it? I think it takes a little more than that to be memorable.
