Anybody use an FDeck HPF with electric?

What does the phase + - switch do?

Reverses phase of the fDeck output. Intended to aid when the fDeck out is combined with a mic'd signal. Sometimes they combine out of phase, canceling out the low end. Flopping the phase of one of the signals can restore improved frequency response.

I've had mine for a while and barely used it. I'm wondering how would you set it up for a hollowbody bass to prevent feedback in louder volume settings? (I have a Gretsch Electromatic 5440)
An HPF is not a good tool to combat feedback in your bass. The fDeck only addresses the very bottom of your signal, and hollow body feedback is more than likely to be in frequencies outside the range of the fDeck (140Hz). A nice narrow, parametric filter is what you seek. I have successfully killed hollow body feedback by stuffing some foam in the body.

A good High Pass Filter could be a huge benefit to your Hollowbody bass, just not necessarily in taming feedback.

It changes the polarity of the electrical signal and in turn the position of the crest and trough of the physical wave as it is produced by the speaker. When you set your gear up and establish your basic position onstage for both yourself and your speaker cabinet/monitors and you experience feedback flip the switch to see which position yields higher gain before feedback. It is a dynamic relationship and will change as you move around. Low frequencies (bass notes) have long wavelengths and if you are standing where a crest (high point) enters the body of your acoustic bass (in particular) it will excite the soundboard and cause feedback, conversely if the polarity (phase) is reversed the sound wave will be at low point (trough) and it will be less prone to feedback. it is also useful in mic/pickup setups where the phase relationship between the two sources are out of phase and sound thin and nasally. Try flipping it a few times and notice that one setting (+usually) has more bottom end and sounds fuller than the other, use this setting until you need the other setting as a tool to fight feedback or align a transducer and mic relationship.

I just got a series 1 I guess (no volume knob) I was wondering where to set the +/- switch. Thanks for the info, I was worried I would screw something up so I left it on the + and didn't move it. I'm only going to use it for electric at this stage, so I can flip the switch as needed right?

Also, has anyone re-housed it into an MXR style box?

Flip as needed. To my ears the sound is somewhat thinner on the - side but if it helps alleviate a feedback or boomy situation then it is the "right" setting. Try setting it to - and then boost the bass a bit, it makes for a different EQ curve and might make for a great tone. If things get really thin than you have two signals of opposite polarity working against each other somewhere in you overall rig. that would be the only "issue". Again that thin sound might be what someone needs for a particular song or setting. The only "right" settings are those that you like.

I've had my FDeck 1 last in my chain for 3 years now maybe. It's always there, always on, always doing its thing. I wonder what my signal would sound like without it. I know I run the knob dimed at all times, phase just depends. But I'm not ever really sure it's doing anything. Someone told me that even with that knob dimed it's still doing something. Which is cool. But I'm happy its under my board.

Now I need an LPF for my dirty direct signal. Hey @fdeck, you ever think about making an LPF?!? ;)
 
mine stays on my board permanently. I Love it. I usually run the filter at about 90%, so its cutting below 40ish. Really helps reign in boomy/squishy sounding rooms. I dont play upright at all, just electric, but I wouldnt get rid of my S3 Fdeck for anything.
