Anyone else addicted to cabinets?

In my peripheral vision, I read the thread title as "Anyone else addicted to cannabis?" :bassist:

(not counting combos) I only own three bass cabinets at the moment, but I have plans to replace two of them with another three... (just need to find the right 2-ohm amp...)

Other than maybe one or two musicians in the crowd know or care what amp/cabs you are using (and they will find some reason to complain about your choice no matter what).

You have GAS.
I got back into gigging, again, in late 2018. GK Amplification and GK cabs, then in late 2021 I swapped up to a Mesa Subway D-800+ head and grabbed a GK NEO IV 212. During all that time I have never had a complaint about my choices of amplification/cabs other than volume, you need to turn up, or you need to turn down.

I have received a ton of compliments on my tone. And the Mesa head / GK NEO IV 212 is bringing out even more compliments than ever. And the best part about those compliments, the majority of them are from what I call the local pros, who, when not gigging themselves, will go out for a night out with the wife, girlfriend, etc... to support other local musicians' gigs. That Mesa / GK rig has turned a lot of heads over the last year and a half. It even gets me extra breaks on a gig because bassists I know are itching to play through it. I even had one hit me up to make sure I was bringing that rig to a gig. He shows up with his bass wanting to play through it, and now he's buying a Mesa head, and either GK NEO IV or Mesa Subway cabs.

The only complaint I have gotten in the last 5 years about any of my gear, was an active Ibanez bass. And I didn't get that complaint until I pulled out a passive Fender American Performer that I had upgraded by dumping the greasebucket tone circuit and "shellacked" pups for Aguilar's hum cancelling P/J set. They were right. The two basses were worlds apart in tone. And that was from a lead guitar player.

PV=nRT
where:
P is the average price of musical equipment you own
V is the volume of gear expressed in number of individual units
n is the ideal Gear Acquisition Syndrome constant
R is the room you have in your dwelling available for gear
T is the tolerance of your significant other

or so I learned in high school........:woot:

I tried your formula and it worked...so now I need to move into a bigger house and get one more wife!

Mesa Boogie 15
Fender Neo 15
Fender pro 15 w/Celestion
Trace-Elliot 10
Old GK 15

I happened upon a Fearless 212/6 recently an just played my first gig with it. Despite being outdoors it was incredible, immediate thickness I could have only dreamed of. Had Aguilar SL410x and 2 SL212s previously and there is no comparison. Feels good to want for nothing now, though I would like to try those Genzler bass arrays to see how they compare.

What amp do you use with yours? I'm using a Genzler Magellan 800 which is also relatively new to me and I love it as well.

Cheers

I'm using a Bergantino Forte HP with my Greenboy F112 stack. My backup amp is a Demeter VTBP-M-800D.

Yes, you have a problem, but I am here to help. Please send me the MM1x15 and possibly the MM2x10 and that will help.

I have a few cabs myself. Mesa Boogie Subway 1x15, another Subway 1x15, Subway 2x12, Genz Benz Shuttle 2x10, plus a Rumble 100. And I use each one of them (or combination) for different purposes. I do not anticipate getting anything else.... (said everyone on talkbass).

You really should consider a Mesa 215....just saying.

Dammit, yes!
I just thinned out some cabs, but here's what I still have, in the order of how much use they're currently getting:
Mesa Subway 212
Euphonic Audio VL-210 (4 ohm)
Genzler BA-115 (x2)
Euphonic Audio VL-110 (x2)

That's the smallest number of cabs I've owned in recent years, and guess what? I find myself trolling the classifieds for more (maybe a Subway 215 would be nice) :hyper:
