Anyone else having issues with USPS?

Everyone is having issues with a huge increase in shipping and the holidays adding even more to it. Georgia is probably having additional issues because of the Senate runoff election and they're giving priority (I believe) to ballots. Things were done that resulted in the post office slowing down. It's all factual, but I'll probably be accused of being political if I mention them, so I'll leave that reading as an exercise for you. I know personally that we haven't bought a single present in store this year. Amazon has been pretty solid, but we live near a major distribution hub and often get shipments next day.

yes everything is slow, but you're likely either snowed in or living in a covid hotspot (or both) so what else ya gonna do but wait?
I've gotta say they've been better than ups which seems to be playing soccer with a few of the snow I've shipped out. thank God for reverb safe shipping

Haven't had any major issues within the last two months having things shipped to Japan, but ordered something last week and it has been in "Package Acceptance Pending" for the last few days. I understand things are pretty hectic right now, but $50 shipping is ridiculous to have to wait for god knows how long.

With as many people out of work right now from covid, USPS would have no problem finding plenty of extra people to help out right now to fulfill all the shipments that they are happily taking money from their customers to do. If Amazon can do all their deliveries with ease, so could USPS, but they just don’t. They are stuck in their old ways and make lots and lots of excuses why they can’t adapt... even before covid. UPS also seems to be on top of things, and I know they are hiring temporary help like crazy around me. One of my regular UPS guys even asked me if I needed any extra work a few weeks ago because they were hiring temps for the Holidays and due to covid staffing issues.

My wife has a package that is taking its sweet time to get here, and it was sent Priority Mail! Check this out -

What's funny is that we just sent two packages to Las Vegas via Priority Mail 2 day and they got there no problem.

I've had ongoing issues with USPS, they loose packages too often and couldn't give a crap about finding them. They're allowed to designate a package delivered before they actually deliver it to the destination, terrible system. I've been told that since tracking shows it delivered, it's out of their hands.

My package, a loaded Jazz body, it was over two weeks overdue. I got notice it is in my city. From CA to Mi...no tracking in between.

Thankfully my buyer is a really good guy & is being very patient. It's an unfortunate situation the USPS is in, being short-handed in a time when everyone is shipping gifts.

I filed a claim with USPS. Not sure if that will do anything. Maybe someone in Atlanta will notice that there's a truck/trailer that has been sitting since last week and decide to unload it... lol.

I ordered a pack of bass strings from a guy on eBay that’s near Philly. I order from him regularly & it usually takes 3-4 days to get here to me just south of Atlanta. He shipped the strings out on Nov 24. They got held up in the Philly post office. Didn’t move for over a week. I figured the USPS lost them. The seller shipped another pack of strings on Dec 7. BOTH packs of strings showed up in my mailbox on Dec 11. I sent the “extra” set back to the seller. It wasn’t his fault the USPS doesn’t have their act together.

You’re not the only one experiencing issues with the USPS right now. Funny how all the other junk mail & election stuff makes it to my mailbox though.

Everything I have gotten the past few weeks has been at least a day or two late. For an extreme personal example, 2 packages from Sweetwater (4 hour drive north of me). Usually 1-2 days. First one took 2.5 weeks. Second one took a full week.

On the plus side nothing lost or damaged so far.

I talked to my mailman on Friday and he said 30% of the Staffing in the Phoenix main distribution centers has called in sick the last week or two so that's why they are so far behind.

It's a pandemic. Everyone is buying things online that have to be shipped. All mailing and shipping companies are completely overwhelmed and sometimes understaffed due to covid. So, to answer the thread title, YES, EVERYONE is experiencing delays everywhere.

People need to be patient and not complain.

We have been on 12 hours on and off and breaking the hard limits on 12 hour days and 60 hour weeks since March. Even when that one district yes man trying to get a jump on the PMG's no overtime goal stopped overtime in the Northeast US. But still with the back ups of days for parcels and letters going into the general election. Carriers were recruited from New Mexico and Arizona but still streets went for days without deliveries as the time had to be allocated for a carrier to eyeball every delivery point to see if an out going ballot was there.

Since the election those carriers returned home to find their states were now also COVID hotspots. But seasonal help finally arrived to start working the drop shipments from Amazon so the regular carriers about 18 out of an authorized strength of 40 on any given day, could work the letter mail and parcels that come from anywhere and go anywhere. A case of toilet paper is time intensive to handle and that time came from letter delivery for some other street. So now we are going 5:30 AM to 8:00 PM and some stations are trying to mandate Sundays also for a 7 day work week. However due to the once we got you we won't let you go attitude. you only get a few days out of the temporary help when they quit.

Because the service pays less for extended overtime hours in December (no double time rates for going over 10 hours a day) we recently had a mass exodus among those COVID emergency hires who had been working before December who saw the pay cut they took with the increased workload and hours.

Most advertising comes sorted into carrier route order it takes much less handling. The most hated ads, the ones like newspaper ads are truck directly to the delivery station by the mailer just like Amazon shipments are, bypassing the USPS distribution plants and clogging the floor at the delivery unit so those move. Pieces that are picked up from anywhere to go anywhere, have to find space in a FedEx cargo hold while they are refusing business or find their way into the cargo holds of the few airliners flying have no choice but be delayed. Furloughed airline pilots are not driving 18 wheelers to make up for lost capacity. And Delta is not flying aircraft empty of people for the cut rate cost of mail that is priced to ride along with paying passengers.

Yep, the tracking doesn't show any progress after leaving my local post office. So for the foreseeable future, I'm not going to ship anything via the USPS, even if it costs more. Not worth having ticked off customers.
