anyone else not watch TV?

I don't think I'd even notice if we got rid of the tv. But, I do watch some shows online, but my interests are limited:

Family guy, the golden girls, orange is the new black, Maude, and any incarnation of Star Trek.

I'm missing a few things in this thread.

First, what's the difference between watching netflix, and watching TV? Netflix is all the same stuff you see on TV, but on demand.
Netflix lacks commercials and "reality" television. Broadcast television makes one a captive to marketing. I am not interested in sports, hardly ever watch television, and only occasionally watch Netflix. Generally, I'm selective about what I watch and am not interested in sitting and watching for hours on end. The odd show like Cosmos is something I'll make time for. On the other hand, I have friends who watch three to six hours of broadcast TV each day....

Commercials are the biggest "Kill" for television.
I don't watch television at all.
We have Wii and get Netflix.
A Netflix movie a couple times per week and that will do it
for me.
I get my news from the internet and we still subscribe to the town's only newpaper. The paper is pretty bad because it is really one sided politically but wifey like all the inserts for shopping so I don't complain.

It's becoming almost impossible to watch network television and get any enjoyment out of it.

Too many commercials to start with......but now they are running those banner ads and "crawlers" in between commercial breaks.

And the banner ads and fillers keep taking up more and more screen space when they do it.

Plus many of the shows are built around the commercials.

For example:- Storage Wars for one. Whenever they find an item they slam the screen shut and go to commercial.

Plus it seems the audio on some shows is compressed or something.

My volume dial goes to "50" but stops getting any louder at "20".

The speech is muffled and you can't tell what they're saying. Of course, the commercials come in just fine.

I was told it was because they use MP4 for audio.....but I'm not sure about that.

It seems all I'm paying for is to watch commercials.

80% of the network shows suck and aren't worth watching anyway.

And hey you news anchors out there.....No!...I DON"T trust you......you say whatever the corporate owners and the station tell you to say.

I still watch t.v........but the point is coming very fast where I'm going to dump my subscription.

I use our giant TV monitor to stream various types of streaming media- most of which were originally broadcast on network, cable, or premium cable stations.
I.suppose a few years down the line, the conversation will sound like this:
"Are you watching live TV? "
"Nope, I'm streaming this off Netflix.".

I have not sat down to watch TV in years. It's on at work and sometimes a few seconds catch my attention. Wife watches a few sitcoms. I never watch it, pay it some attention for a few minutes at best. Be fine with me if I never saw TV programing the rest of my life.

I don’t understand this. I want to be engaged with current events, not oblivious to them. I’m selective about what news sources I trust, and I’m careful to separate news from opinion and editorial comments. It can be done. But if your only source is Sean Hannity, you’re getting no news and only skewed opinion.

How do you know what you’ve missed if you didn’t have it at all? :)

Are you avoiding news, or entertainment?

In the media, advertising is referred to as "Content" and the actual programmes are referred to as "Filler."

I'm avoiding both. I'd rather read, or listen to R4, or lectures by men and women past and present who are a lot smarter than I'll ever be.
