Anyone else quit riding motorcycles?

Just sold my dual-sport. So I'm down to zero bikes.

A few years ago I was really in to motorcycles. Right now I'm not sure. I hit a few deer in the truck, a couple years ago and that really drove home how hard it is to avoid.

I know dirt/adventure riding just isn't my thing. I'm afraid if I ever get near a road bike, I might fall for it. (Can get my old BMW back for cheap.) We'll see...

Anyone else get out of motorcycling and feel OK about it?

Yes! Several times for different reasons. I saw a good friend die right in front of me I lost other friends on bikes as well. I switched from sport bikes to Harleys and back again twice. Now I'm back to a Harley and that's probably where I'll stay. I ride very easy, take my time and wear full gear. If I die it will be at the hands of some asshat driver, texting or yakking on a cell phone

Yup. Gave it up after I collected that 6-inch steel plate in my left leg and spent six months in a cast. Fun, but I like having a bit more metal wrapped around me. And I still have both legs.

Same. About 18 years ago I hit a patch of black ice. Escaped intact but didn't want to roll those particular dice a second time.

I've really just started riding seriously. I've gone down once, and did just fine at the time. I've already promised my mother and girlfriend that if I ever break more than 1 bone at a time, or spend more than 3 days in hospital I'll quit.

As for adventure/dirt riding, I'd much rather do that. Like Knifemaker said, its getting harder and harder to avoid texting idiot drivers every day. Just today I nearly had someone pull out in front of me on my first ride in 2 months. quick headlight flash, horn and a swerve and they backed off.

I had my bass on my back and my combo strapped to the seat and hit a patch of wet leaves. Stayed up but realized that in a moment not only my life and health (which seems cheap enough when you're 20) but all my worldly goods could be wiped out in one slip.

Years later I have enough disc degeneration in my neck that riding would be a Bad idea. Well, riding wouldn't be too bad, but taking a fall would be Very Bad.

X rider here. After 6 bikes and many many miles I had a good friend die on a Sportster. I tried to stay into it telling myself it would never happen to me but I have kids and I just couldn't. So I sold my Wide Glide a few years back. I miss it from time to time but I feel like I dodged a bullet.

Yeah. I have a beautiful '75 Shovelhead in the garage I haven't ridden since the California Helmet Law...1992, I think.

There are two types of bikers: Bikers that have been in an accident and bikers that will be in an accident.

I gave up motorcycle riding a while ago. It was fun but I just got tired of cars not seeing me. I had a couple of close calls and even laid the bike down twice.

The drummer in our band got seriously hurt right before our gig season. I am not sure that he will ever fully recover.

I also found it impractical in the Pacific Northwest. Plus I can't run to the hardware store, grocery or guitar store.

I used to ride alot and I used to ride fast i.e. over 100mph most just about everytime I took the bike out. I don't ride anymore and I don't miss it, though I love the new bikes that are available, I get my thrills doing other things that are a little safer.

i still have my flh but it's been a while.....making the transition from degenerate biker to aged enthusiast has not been easy..most of the guys i can relate to are out of it now and ..sunday putts just don't cut it,and i find the occ crowd to be a bore.......i haven't seen a decent looking pan or ul in ages

yeah,that too....we got ours in 83....it takes longer to get dressed for a ride than it takes to get where you're going these days

I sold my Triumph Trophy a few years back after I had a major relapse (I have MS) which made me physically unable to ride - balance shot, weakness on left side of body...
I don't really miss riding mostly because I don't feel good enough to ride even if I still had a bike.

Truck locks up in front of you on the highway, lay down the v-max, puts a real damper on riding bikes. That was August 4th, 1990, last time I rode a motorcycle of any kind.

I sold my last bike in 1992... almost bought another a few years back. But other than an occasional fleeting GAS for a bike, I have no desire to ride any more.
