Double Bass Anyone tired Perpetual Solo? (Solo tuned)

I have to setup my bass for classical solo playing, for my degree….
I looking for nice low tension solo strings, my bass has 108cm scale, so I like to avoid stiff strings….
I’m a long time Pirastro fan, I tired allmost all of they strings, but didn”t try Perpetuals, how are the bow response of this strings?

I only have tried the regular orchestral ones.
On my 110 cm acoustic DB they are nice to play, a bit bright for my taste but easy to bow. On a 105 cm solid body EUB I found them too less tension, weak. So if the solo set is similar in tension in solo tuning, they should work well on your 108 cm scale.

BTW, the Perpetuals are included in the last version of the Excel file in my Dropbox.

I think perp solos would make awful bright solo strings. Why not try Jargar dolce? They would have a broader color pallet than solo perps -- IMO, YMMV, etc...

I’ve used them tuned down to orchestra but my experience with bowing is good

Jargar Dolces can be tuned at solo pitch.

I’m olso thinking on Flexocoor. Back in days, long time ago, I used Pirastro Original Flat Chrome, it was incredible good solo arco string, but today is very expensive and it has very high tension for my current particular bass….But would be nice something similar in sound and bow response but low tension…

I wouldn't assume the Perp solos are brighter than their heavier counterparts. For example my Spiro solos are less bright than the Weich.

Yes I've tried them and didn't like them at all for jazz pizz.(downtuned to orchestra pitch)..they were slow and kind of electric bass sounding...only good thing I have to say is that they were very very well balanced from string to string.

Now I looking for strings for arco, solo tuning! I never useing solo strings down tuned…
