Hi there,
This past week I removed my Thomastik Dominant solo A string (top string) to travel with --- and of course never ended up putting it on a different bass --- and now that it's back on my own instrument it's feeling/sounding strangely brittle and dry? I can't tell if it's just grubby...
I personally would want some slightly darker rounds, but not so dark that it ruins the slap tone. From what I've heard, nickel roundwounds would be best, but I'd like some input before i waste my money.
If possible, I'd also like to know what strings are loudest unplugged, since i have a semi...
Hello,
I am looking to tune my 5 string to drop a to play with my band and am not sure which strings to go with .. I am seeing only .135 as the thickest gauge available at alot of music stores, and am also hearing that that gauge is a little light for the tuning. I don’t want to have to do a lot...
Hi I just traded my sr640 for a atb140. I'm new to this style of setup on my bass (bridge etc.) it's tuned perfectly fine but my strong keeps loosening and buzzing? Any advice
Ok, here’s yet another “what strings” thread.
I’m thinking of changing the strings on my Squier VM Precision Bass TB that has been converted to fretless. It’s currently strung with Chromes, 45-100 IIRC. They’ve been on it since mid 2020, so not particularly old, but I’m noticing a really...
So I've been using GHS Boomers and GHS Tapewounds for a long time now. I've been getting bored of the tapes and thinking of getting flats instead. In the past, I wasn't happy with either of the GHS flats, so I'm thinking of Chromes or Rotosound.
On my other bass, I figured I'd experiment with...
I'm sure nobody disagrees that rotosound strings sound wonderful, however, does anyone else feel like the strings are way rougher on fingers than other roundwounds? In comparison to other strings, I find that my fingers move significantly slower on rotosound roundwound strings. It's like...
I bought mesrlf a Dingwall Combustion NG3 5-stringm2 weeks ago and I love it! The sound it gives - OMG!
There is one problem though... Standard issued with nickel strings and it makes my fingers hurt like hell - whee allergies And with that I wager that by the end of the month the strings are...
I have to setup my bass for classical solo playing, for my degree….
I looking for nice low tension solo strings, my bass has 108cm scale, so I like to avoid stiff strings….
I’m a long time Pirastro fan, I tired allmost all of they strings, but didn”t try Perpetuals, how are the bow response of...
I was wondering what strings to use for my Ibanez SRFF800. Right now it has steelwound GHS super steels (.044, .063, .080, .102) on it, but I want something better on it.
I wonder if a set of steelwound Dingwall strings will fit. I am also wondering if a .95 E string will make much of a...
TLDR: would la bella deep talking flats work for a multiscale? listed tensions and string scales below:
G string: .052 - Scale 33”
D string: .073 - Scale 33.75
A string: 0.095 - Scale 34.5”
E string: 0.110 - Scale 35.25”
B string: 0.130 - Scale 36”
all 38” winding length. the G, D, A strings...
I use Pirastro EP. weich strings for GD and Obligato for AE, long time since, I love so much that combo. I play 50% bow and 50% arco this time in my life….I prefer EP for bow, but prefer Obli for pizz, that combo is seems the best allround for me…
But now I should setup the bass for solo tuning...
I was scrolling through ishguitars and came across this beautiful mattison bass that sold a while back. Anybody have a clue what company makes these rad looking strings? Thanks for your help!
I know this is discussed in many many threads and there is a very funny thread on sticky;
Help! I need to get rid of that new string sound!
There are stories of very famous people running butter, mayones or greasy sauces to strings for that Jamerson tone or 6 month + old broken in strings o_O
I...
Hi all, I looking to get a different sound out of my Starfire 2 that is 30" scale. Terrific pickups. I have D'Addario flats on now, Came with rounds, but it was very clanky sounding. Am thinking I need something in between rounds and flats to get a more acoustic sound from this semi-hollow bass...
I found a Guyatone SB-28 today and immediately bought it. It has a floating bridge and I have spent the better part of the day trying to figure out how to remove the strings. There is a block of wood in the trapezoid and I can't see any way to remove the strings without removing the block of...
Does anyone have any suggestions for new strings on my Sandberg California 5? I'm not thrilled with the tension on the low B or the tone on the higher D and G strings. It's a Ken Smith style bass - low action, fast response. Maybe Ken Smith strings? Fodera? Just thought I would ask and see...
Hi, without going into a long story (I'll save that for another thread introducing myself) I recently pulled my bass out. It was an instrument I picked up at a pawn shop to add to my gear and after gigging with it for a while it has sat unused for years after a move. I pulled it out to clean...
