Anything new at NAMM 2026?

New models are coming. They'll basically shove Bluetooth and Wi-Fi into every single thing. Yeah, even your picks and guitar stands will have internet access soon.

I expect I'm an outlier, but I could go for a micro head with just a basic G/V/B/M/T in hardware, and a phone/tablet app with a more sophisticated preamp control set inc FX and saveable configs, plus a built in wireless receiver. Oh and a wireless foot controller too.

There's a guy at our gym who is on Pluvicta, that plutonium isotope-infused medicine they give you for a type of prostate cancer. He drags around a plastic sheet like a baby's woobie and puts it down on any machine he works out on, to keep from exposing the rest of us to radiation. The only issue is I notice he doesn't keep track of which side of the sheet he is using, seems to lay it down randomly. Therefore I avoid machines he uses. Perhaps they should put a geiger counter app in the iPhone?

They do make apps for that.

For radiation detection it also requires a sensor that plugs into your phone's USB port. Pocket Geiger and Polimaster are two that are on the market.

There's also apps for EMF or electro magnetic field detection for phones as well that work off your phone's hardware. Nothing external needed.

Not surprised. Nothing surprises me, about what the iPhone is capable of these days. What surprises me is my lack of foresight, not seeing what that phone would become when it was introduced, and buying Apple stock. I was kinda put off then my son-in-law showed me his phone back then, and said the most popular app was the "Fart App," which made wonderful amusing flatulence sounds.

I borrowed my client's EMF detector back in '90 to test EMF in my bedroom because a transformer was on telephone pole right outside my window. EMF was not noticeable, which surprised me.

After every NAMM Show, famous YouTubers receive "new products" from brands, and they unanimously claim: "This is the best pedal I've ever used," "This is the best amp I've ever used," or "This is the best pick I've ever used." Yet, outside of that specific video, you never see them using those "best new items" ever again.

When I was a child watching The Ten Commandments, I found it strange—why is "bearing false witness" listed alongside "murder" as a cardinal sin? It's because, sometimes, the harm caused by false testimony is no less significant than that of murder, isn't it?

Most phones have a magnetometer in them these days so EMF apps use it as a sensor for detecting EMF. But you cannot use a magnetic case on your phone or the it will throw off the magnetometer.

I have Ultimate EMF Detector Pro for Android. There's a free version with ads, and the Pro version, costs 2 bucks. Not bad for something that will read magnetic fields.

It reads in microTesla, Gauss, & milliGaus units. 30 - 60 microTesla units is normal, not harmful, and should not cause any EMF interference in most cases. Guess it could on an unshielded, poorly grounded bass. Great tool to have if you're having line noise / EMF interference in your bass signal and need to try to figure out where it's coming from.

42.8 sitting at my desk, well within the acceptable 30 - 60 range.

48.3 right against a LED light bulb, again in the acceptable 30 - 60 range

190.1 right against my wifi adapter that connects my desktop to my router, ouch. It sets of audible alarms on the phone.

I just saw that Fender will be there. I would love some new AmPro II Jazz bass V's in better colors. I know...a niche market, but a passive Fender Jazz V is what I love (just not in the boring colors). I bought my AmPro II P V since the Dark Night finish is so freakin' cool-but of course no 5 string Jazz in that color.

I believe that other than a Custom Shop event on Wednesday, the only official booth Fender will have at the show is for Fender Studio (formerly PreSonus Studio One).
