We were in a panic that we'd have a temporary disruption that would set us back to where we were 50 years ago, "when men were more manly."

Obviously the people who built our system could've rebuilt it, just like your cowboys of yore could've rebuilt their wagon should they have suffered a setback on the trail.

Yeah, there'll always be cowboys, so long as they're needed. We just don't need to waste so much of the population on redundancies with our current social order. You only need one liver (unless you have a drinking problem like myself).

I see diversity and knowledge going together though. The more people study the details, the more they become experts in their field, the more fields that we have covered leads to a database of reference materials, new hypotheses, education, etc.

As to whether I feel that I've been feminized:

I'm not as hung up on trying to be "masculine" as I was when I was younger. It's silly to assume that all things that women do are less valuable than what men do. There's a reason both sets of "traits" survived in our society. I am willing to pick up a few tricks from the other team's playbook now and then, why not?

Plus, I think I happen to look dazzling in chiffon.:hmm:

There's a generation of American guys growing up without a sense of honor, work ethic, or strength of any kind. They're resembling junior high girls more than anything. It's not that they're being feminized - most American women have more balls than a lot of today's young men.

Examples are most of the high school boys my 16 year old daughter hangs around with. A much smaller percentage of them than the high school kids I remember are capable of getting a summer job on their own or understanding why it's important to have one rather than sit around and play video games all summer and then cry when they have no money.

And when one or more of them are hanging around my house and I ask them to help me with something like carry a large object across the yard or help me with a simple task for five minutes they are usually incapable of doing it. Some of my daughter's girlfriends are more capable of helping me than the boys are. Although not a single one of them (boys or girls) knew how to fix a flat tire on their own bikes.

Perhaps this is anecdotal and isn't representative of typical teenage boys and girls. Yet I hear this same thing from other parents about their teens and the friends they hang out with. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions but I am explicitly asserting that it's more common than not and this wasn't the case when I was in high school.

Evidence is in the eye of the beholder.

There's really not anything that I would consider to be actual evidence to "prove" this, but all you need to do to see it is to observe a few "typical" (again, pretty subjective, but we'll use it for the sake of argument) high schools in the U.S.

From what I've experienced, the largest group of guys in that age range have less and less knowledge or motivation of/for anything useful, productive, etc.

An example - instead of doing...well, really anything outside, a good chunk of them spend their time playing rock band (don't even get me started on the ones who base their music tastes solely on aforementioned game :rolleyes:). Instead of eating real food, they drink Gatorade and eat Doritos. I suppose it's no wonder that they don't get any exercise.

Even aside from physical activities, so many of them don't seem to have any self respect or independent thought - going with the herd (clique cruelty, et al), blindly following fads, etc. They gossip like 8th grade girls. The sad thing to consider is how many of the girls are more mature than them.

But now I'm ranting.

All of this is from a high school senior, BTW. I don't claim to know everything, but this is one thing that I have more first hand experience with than I care to think about. :hmm:
