I agree, gender roles are being shifted. On certain things, I don't think it is a bad thing. Like taking a more active role in parenting. But in the legal system, there is such a huge bias in favor of women in domestic disputes and divorce. And that is a factor in the destruction of marriage as an institution. Certain women are using this as a weapon to oppress men. Just like it was the other way around 50 years ago.

An article I read yesterday:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I find this quote from the article both extremely true, and slightly disturbing in its accuracy.

Mary Lingwall said:
If I hook up with a girl in just about any capacity, a few people may judge me harshly, but by and large I could continue hooking up with dudes and no one would really care. But if my boyfriend blew another guy and people found out, well, he would be called gay no matter how much he protested (unless he said he didn’t like it or that it was a huge mistake), and his future with women would be compromised.

First of all, what's the art of manliness?
And what's this joy and pride of being a man ... ?

So ... how are those Dodgers doin?

Do you think that the art of manliness has been lost? It seems like everything about being a man all the way from boyhood up has changed, from the way we interact with each other to the way we dress and speak. The agenda of schools seems to be to create as little personality gender distinction as possible. I remember in grade school boy's attitude were boys rule and girls, well suck. Was it politically correct? No, but we got wiser as we got older and our attitudes changed. But, it seems now there is such a fuss about gender equality that much of the joy and pride of being a man has been lost.

I definitely see a couple as working hand in hand to a common goal, but when it comes to certain things that I refuse to do or to allow to happen, my foot goes down and that is that.
Never was challenged about those things afterwards.:D

Everyone has things they will not compromise on. For me it's music. I am a musician and will be until either I'm dead or some horrible accident/disease renders me unable to play.

But she has her things that she absolutely will never compromise on, too.

Some amusing side notes, since almost everything has already been said:

1. Worldwide, the most powerful weapon against poverty is the economic and social empowerment of women, including education and reproductive freedom. Tell me how a country treats women, and I can probably guess how many of us -- male or female -- would want to live there.

2. Take half of the population who have lived in chains, and unchain them to compete in the free market. If you do that, it's virtually guaranteed that many people belonging to the other half will now have to compete for what they previously took for granted as entitlements. Some will accept the new competition, and get on with life. Others will develop a victim mentality. I choose to compete and take responsibility for my own success or failure.

3. A man needs a definition of what a man is, like a bassist needs someone to arbitrate "the role of the bassist."

4. Forget about who is the breadwinner and who raises the kids. Most two-parent families need two incomes just to stay afloat with some modicum of prosperity and economic security.

5. We can't go back to a 1950's society without destroying our economy.
