The only major US bass maker I can think of off hand who has never had a budget line is Rickenbacker.
Well, BC rich may well have upgraded its offering, or they made a one-off to show everyone that they used to be cool; I would *really* like to hear that they have come back to the US and are making instruments like they used to - but I have not. But again, that picture is of what I'm guessing is a recreation of a very old (and very cool) 8 string bass that I *dearly* wanted when I was a kid... or it's a re-furbed model that was just on display. I don't know - didn't go this year.
