Are egg yolks bad for you?

Are egg yolks bad for you?

What week is it? Oh, last week of Oct. YES, they are bad for you. Wait until Monday for the new report, it'll be Nov then.

ps. I eat eggs regularly, along with many thing 'bad' also many things 'good'. I balance what I eat. To paraquote a famous Captain, "Too much of anything, isn't necessarily a good thing." It'll get you in tribble every time.

At Muay Thai last night, another boxer and I were talking about diet. He says he eats 5 eggs a day, yolk and all and that it's a myth that yolks are bad for you. I asked him about the cholesterol and he said that it is the "good" cholesterol, and not bad for you like the cholesterol that comes from other food sources. My father in law agrees with him.

5 yolks a day though?

So many doctor reports seem to suggest that eating so many eggs is still not very good for you. And that 2 a day exceeds the recommended intake.

I love eggs and am moving to a higher protein diet. I'm going to be taking protein powder as well, and am not looking for general diet advice.

What does TBOT think of egg yolks? Yay or nay?

Your doctor is right. Eggs are a good source of cholesterol, but it's super easy to overdo it. Two egg yolks do go over a person's recommended daily intake of it. Fortunately for you, the egg yolk doesn't contain the most amount of protein in an egg; that would be the white. So if you're looking to continue a high protein diet with eggs then let it be known you can still do that. Just be sure to use only one yolk :)

The classic definition of a poison is "Too Much".

And on top of that If I had a dollar for every time I see something that was bad for you last week good for this week I would by able to buy some new strings for some basses.

I'll bet that worrying about what bad for is bad for you.

We eat so few eggs it's not something you'd find in our fridge as a regular stock item. I like them for a few days and then I don't care of them for a week or so before I again get the urge to have some sunny side up, runny yolk eggs to mix with some grits for breakfast, or a soft boiled egg on toast.

I think it all just comes down to what you put in vs what you put out.

If you are a 40 year old man with a beer belly whose only exercise is blinking, 6 eggs is probably going to do you harm. But that is just because you don't expend the excess nutritional supplements they give you.

If you are a martial artist, 6 eggs is no doubt fine.

Why do you not see fit 20 year olds who eat heaps of eggs/burgers/whatever with cholesterol issues, but see overweight middle aged guys with it? The energy has to go somewhere.

I use HyVee 99% liquid egg product, 40g, pretty much every morning for breakfast. My cholesterol is well within bounds.

Total Cho: 129, HDL: 43, Non-HDL: 86, LDL: 68.

But I rarely eat whole eggs. Pretty much the only time I have then in the house is when it's my turn to make deviled eggs. Tried just egg whites, they didn't do it for me, didn't like the taste or consistency of the finished product.

When I got stationed in Idaho in 1973, there was an old woman in the shop who bitched constantly about how her doctor had forbidden her to eat eggs, because the cholesterol would kill her, and blah blah blah. One day in 1976, she came to work with several hard- boiled eggs in her lunch sack; happily announced to everyone that her doctor had just told her that eggs were now good for her; and then snarfed 'em all down for lunch. Was still eating at least 2 for lunch every day, when I got transferred in '78. The day she showed up with the eggs was the day I stopped paying any attention to what anybody said about what was good or bad for me to eat. I just try not to eat too much of anything, and get some exercise regularly. I'd much rather die clutching a half-eaten pizza slice at 70, than be miserable at 85, living on tofu and bean shoots. :spit:

I believe this is the correct answer. It depends on who's study you want to trust when. Remember that researchers advance in their chosen profession by being published in the professional journals. You greatly decrease your chances of getting published by saying "there's really nothing to see here folks".

The Lipid Hypothesis was founded on lies and has been proven false hundreds of times over. Not a single study has shown either of it's claims to hold any water at all. The US government wanted to sell commodities like corn, wheat, soy, and sugar on the futures market, so they hired lobbyists and funded select "scientists" to keep the lie going. They created a food pyramid to encourage people to eat lots of bread, and started selling a "heart healthy" badge to producers of food high in chemically derived vegetable fats.

Cholesterol is so important in fact that every cell in your body can manufacture it if needed. Cholesterol imbalance is a symptom, not a cause. Go ahead and east eggs all you want, the evidence shows them to be very healthy after all.

Didn't you hear. It's now tofo that's bad for you!

If one were to look at a slice of pizza the right way it looks like a pyramid.

That just simplified the heck out of my life!

Egg yolks aren't bad for you. Look at a hatchling chick and they mostly seem healthy enough. TOO MANY egg yolks could be bad for you.

Fats are a very useful component of a balanced diet. You need lipids for new cell membranes during processes of growth and repair. TOO MUCH fat can be bad for you.

Nutrition is generally pretty easy science. What causes the confusion is people selectively presenting aspects of nutrition in a way that helps them manipulate consumers. Common sense is the best way to approach your choices.

Years ago, I remember hearing that an egg could be used to temporarily seal a leaking car radiator. The heat and pressure cooks the egg and forces it to plug the leak...providing the hole is in the radiator and not one of the hoses.

However, I'm not sure whether it actually works or if it was just one if those myths.

As far as eating eggs goes...pretty much every Sunday, I have two fried eggs on toast with brown sauce and pepper.

I eat two eggs every morning 5-6 days a week. Here's what I found in my case: I never had high cholesterol, only borderline at one point. My trigs were high, though. When I knocked out 95% of refined carbs in my diet to lose weight and to confront insulin resistance issues, cholesterol bumped down the few degrees to normal and my trigs came down to normal.
IMHO the dietary cholesterol thing has been pretty much debunked. I have had friends with low to normal levels have bypasses, and ones with sky high levels live to late 80's with no heart issues. YGMV = your genes may vary. Extremes go in both directions. Be moderate.

It's from an animal so like all others from them they produce Cholesterol. If you do not have problems with it eat away, if you do don't eat them or use a substitute.

My Cholesterol level were sky high even on meds so I went to a vegetarian diet. My levels dropped so low I do not need medication anymore.

This was confirmed by the Mythbusters. Seen my dad do this on one of his race cars in an emergency many, many, many years ago.

The thing is, most store-bought eggs are produced from sick, nasty looking battery chickens.

We raise our own chickens, and have been told time and again our eggs taste so much better than store-bought that they are kind of like crack. Highly addictive! They are also healthier.

I eat them frequently. I have never eaten six a day. I am moderately healthy. You may be healthier than me. You probably don't want to be much LESS healthy than me.
