Are egg yolks bad for you?

The thing is, most store-bought eggs are produced from sick, nasty looking battery chickens.

We raise our own chickens, and have been told time and again our eggs taste so much better than store-bought that they are kind of like crack. Highly addictive! They are also healthier.

I eat them frequently. I have never eaten six a day. I am moderately healthy. You may be healthier than me. You probably don't want to be much LESS healthy than me.

Yeah, fresh eggs from real healthy chickens are much tastier. Only had them a couple times but they're pretty awesome.

This is true. My sister keeps chickens and their eggs are way, way better than anything I can buy in a shop (even though I always buy free range and not battery produced eggs).

The yolks from my sister's chicken eggs are even visibly very different from shop-bought ones. They are much brighter yellow, almost luminous. When scrambled, the eggs come out really yellow instead of pasty pale yellow.

based on this thread my next egg purchase will be free range instead of whomever has them on sale at the time :D

I buy my eggs at Trader Joes:

"All eggs in the Trader Joe's label come only from cage-free hens. Any conventional eggs sold in our stores are in a brand name carton, not under the Trader Joe's label."

I like buying my food there because theyre committed to seeling foods with

NO artificial flavors, colors or
preservativesNO genetically modified ingredients
NO MSG
NO added Trans Fats

As someone who is trying to eat better, and avoid GMO foods shopping there puts me at ease.
And, their prices are pretty good compared to other grocery stores.

Egg Yolks are not bad for you. I have been eating between 6-10 whole eggs for breakfast for years and my bloodwark is perfect. That said, I am pretty picky about my diet. I eat probably about 10% processed foods and the majority of my diet is from organic, single ingredient sources. I avoid fast food, soda and other extremely sugary things. People that act like they don't fill their diets with crap and keep elimintating nutritious whole foods are morons. All the chemicals and hormones in food these days and people are worried about egg yolks...

This is almost exactly my food thoughts as well, I eat 4-8 eggs a day, depending on how lazy I'm feeling and my bloodwork is perfect, I'm sitting around 10% body fat or less currently, eggs aren't a problem for me at all.

I eat from 6-8 eggs a day, yolks included- I've been lifting weights and running, doing Mma training for many years and my cholesterol is fine. Old school bodybuilder Vince Gironda (he trained Arnold Schwarzenegger for a couple yrs) ate steak and eggs twice a day (up to 8 or 10 eggs daily)and that's what worked for him- also avoiding too many carbohydrates- he looked amazing and was in incredible shape- he wrote many books on nutrition and bodybuilding. My cholesterol and triglyceride levels are just fine, I get a complete physical yearly. I'm not saying that the average couch potato eat 8 eggs a day, but it works for me just fine.

Cutting out the yolks is a bit eggstreme, I'd just watch how many you have. I have a 4 egg omelette most days, or something with eggs, and I'm still alive as I'm writing this! I haven't gone just yet

I know a bodybuilder that was eating 12 eggs a day....and he was a national champion......

For info on Cholesterol and fats , The Framington Study is one of the best out there to read

A study done on an entire town for 40 years to see what the effects of eating cholesterol and fats were........

Actually it's sugar that does the damage...

and also I'd be more worried about tri-glyceride levels than cholesterol..

High sugar in the blood scratches and tears the interior of the arteries....so the cholesterol rushes to these areas to fix it.....which is what cholesterol does.....helps maintain artery walls.......then when the cholesterol forms there like a tire patch---------it gets the blame for clogging arteries....

Most of the current popular diet advice out there is 100% grade A unadulterated b*llsh*t and so are the "ways to lose weight"

I've been weightlifting for years..........heard it all and then some......

The Fear Of Cholesterol runs rampant in North America....

Most of the popular so-called knowledge about Cholesterol bandied around on fad diet sites and elsewhere is bogus.....

Butter is actually better for you than "hardblock" margarine.......I wouldn't feed "hardblock" margarine to a pig.

And you want to stay away from anything that contains "hydrogenated" oils..........

What is bad for you is to eat the same type of food everyday, eggs are not bad for you until you eat them in excess , everyday for a long period of time. If you want to start building muscles and you think you need to increase your protein intake then the healthier way to do it is by trying different sources: Beef, chicken, eggs, protein shakes, wild salmon, greek yogurt etc.

Yup....I agree!

Read the book The Cholesterol Myth by Johhny Bowden, or watch the summary below. It's an eye opener. I stopped taking my statin last year.

FWIW I eat up to a dozen local eggs a day and eat a lot of grass fed beef and I feel like a million bucks. I also CrossFit everyday, sometimes twice a day, so I need to eat a lot of protein.

The key is to eliminate the bad foods...grains,dairy,added sugars, soy bases, alcohol and starchy foods. Pasta and breads are the big ones to eliminate. Do this and you will feel like a super hero!!!

Diets and snake-oil aside, I would offer that Whey Protein is a better bang for the buck than eggs.......if you are eating eggs as a protein source for training.....

Just good ol' plain-Jane Whey....sweetened with Stevia and maybe Vanilla flavored or Natural......

NOT the Whey that is sugar sweetened and comes in all those goofy flavors.....

Anything you eat that contains artificial trans-fats should be avoided like the plague (they cause internal cell destruction"
