Are things slowing down on TB?

Without seeing log files or visitor stats, I can't really tell. So I don't know if things are really slowing down or I'm losing interest myself and that is being misinterpreted by myself as "things slowing down".

Our actual membership could still be if I read this correctly. Might just be younger people spending more time on the internet overall and lurking without joining up or posting. I did occasionally for years before I started tuning in and posting regularly five years ago (still do on other forums). For the record, I will turn over to 43 on Friday.

This was exactly me when I started playing bass. When I got my first bass in 2020 I would always up lurking on Talkbass and the bass subreddit just lurking and searching for any questions I possibly had. I eventually made an account and started taking bass lessons which my bass teacher which he answers any questions I have now which I stopped going on Talkbass as often.

Now don't get me wrong. My teacher sometimes doesn't have the answers I'm looking for so I do come back from time to time to do some research or to even post about a question. And so far Talkbass hasn't failed me on getting the answers I need.

I feel like it was probably busier years ago? But I feel like a lot of people left Reddit so that might bring more people onto TalkBass? I've been on here more the past few months anyway.

I'm someone who is not a fan of the bass reddit, but I'll lurk on it. Even though some months you will rarely see me type on here and at times I am becoming more like that, I think a lot of people lurk on here. Also a lot of people purely use Classifieds as well and I mean TB has literally every bass question you can imagine, nearly everyone I met on here my age said something similar that they just wanted an account to archive or save some TB questions. I try my best to be active but generation clash sometimes does bring me down... but it depends on the day...

Either way I think post-COVID, with more people going out now I have seen this with a lot of websites have lost loads of traffic.
Also PS I like TB better because I find a lot of the users even if we clash don't BS info and wrong info gets called it, so it is good to have a nice citation here and there and most are welcoming anyway.

I still find this forum very interesting and the members here congenial - I just don't have nearly as much spare time as usual ( and don't see that trend abating in the next 12-24 months!)

Don't take this wrong, but... it seems that the same questions are being asked by "newbies" (that could be answered with a little bit of "sleuthing/experimenting"), and being answered by the same members, the same way (this isn't a bad thing, for the most part). A lot of threads seem to be asking for "group negativity/shaming", of artists and equipment. Questions about how to handle negative "band situations" make me crazy. What ever happened to "trust your gut?" You can choose your own pickguard. And... if you get tired of it, change it back. Redundancy makes me crazy. And... NBD's, are of stuff that we've already seen a million times. Fender will do what fender does, or does not do. There will always be the "flavor of the week." Amps will get smaller, and sound, well... smaller... Most of us old guys are... getting old. In the end, we all wanna be better BASS PLAYERS.

Let's just have some FUN.

well i mean with guys like davie and charles mostly being pro level self taught etc and i mean bands can just record parts via a DAW and a focusrite and be a "band" with out even playing out lol as for TB and the ole hats being a bit gate keepy/preachy covid boom with everything from a linux spike ( arch user btw for like 7 years hehe) to people being so bored they but a $1000 set up and after a week its on verb or FBM for like $300 lmao

so here and there yes and no as long as we are here its not gonna die but new blood has other things going on

I think there’s a bit of a lull in the larger bass world right now.

I can’t speak for everyone, but it doesn’t seem like theres been much of anything that’s genuinely “new” for awhile now. We’ve seeing pretty much the same major players, techniques, companies, brands, and gear. And not much by way of real innovation, although incremental improvement still continues.

Bottom line: there hasn't been much bass related stuff to get excited about lately. And as a result there hasn’t been as much to talk about. I think folks here are milling about and socializing to bide the time until the next new thing or hot button bass topic comes along.

I know for me, I have very little to add here. Nobody really cares about what piddly gigs I'm playing, or where in Podunk they are, so why bother with posting fluff about it?

I just stick to the subscribed threads, and try to ignore the steady stream of obnoxious repeat threads. Hang out with Jeannie more.
