I'm no hack by any means, but I have seen my fair share. I try taking my playing as serious as I possibly could. I love playing. I also play guitar but I am a bass player. It's my passion. I only learned guitar to become a better bassist and song writer. Like someone stated I'm no virtuoso and never will be. I. Just trying to come up with a good groove and throw a little of my own twist onto it. I will say that when it comes to bass that my limits are endless and I'm gunna try to improve everyday I play for the rest of my life. I broaden my horizons,and wherever it takes me hopefully it's a great adventure

I have a pretty decent ear and studied theory, so I can sort of get around on any instrument. But I don't consider myself a real performer on anything, bass included...despite the fact that I played a gig last Thursday and have one this Thursday. All I had to do for those was show up, not actually be good.

With that said, I'm practicing and developing my bass sensibilities, so one day, I'll be an actual bassist, but for now, I'm an epic hack.

Started playing at 15. I'll be 68 this year and still playing. A good musician would have an accumulated 53 years' experience. A hack just has the same year of experience 53 times. I don't think I'm a hack, but I'm not a good musician yet either. Maybe next year

Keyboards are my first instrument, and I didn't learn bass until 1995. Of course, that's over 20 years ago, and I own three basses now (5 string, 4 string & fretless) as well as a head an a cabinet. I also play professionally (not as much as keys/piano), and I consider bass my 2nd instrument, but I'd never consider myself a hack...
