There was a news item on the Aria UK site recently saying that the SB-1000CB was launched (bit late, eh?). :rolleyes:
Presumably that was just to the UK & Europe markets as it wasn't widely available here.
They gave a list of £749!!

On the Ariaguitars.com site, they have two models listed now. The SB-1000CB and the mysterious SB-CB we were talking about before. I have a sneaking suspicion that they may have changed where these are being made and that would account for the price cut.

As it stands, this list price is less than HALF of the previous STREET price! :eek:

£749GBP is $1200~, the previous new price for these was $2500!!!

I literally just hooked up an ancient scanner I had sitting a suitcase for years, and scanned a catalog page from my '91 Aria catalog. I wasn't even sure if it would work, but it did. Here is more info on the Integra 5 string from the catalog. But I think this is the year after yours thejrace. I am missing the '89 or '90 catalog that might show your exact model. But I would guess the only real difference is the now symetrical headstock featured in '91. BTW, I think your bass would have been known as the IGB-DLX 5 in the US (as it shows up as in that Billy Gould ad floating around).

As you can see the pickups are listed as being single coil, so I think that explains my friend's noisy bass. I would think some EMGs or Bartolinis would be a good upgrade for this model...

If JimmyP. is still lurking, and you're bored, maybe you can translate some of this. :) But luckily the specs are in English so the rest is probably marketing stuff saying how "elegant" this bass is. :) Eventually I will try and get most of the my catalogs scanned.

I will check, but I think those Elites also fall in my catalog gap! I have catalogs from the early 80s, one in 86 then a gap from 87 to 90 I think. I will check, though. I'll be out of town for a couple weeks so serious scanning will start later in November! I will also check my stash of catalogs in the US but I think those are mostly from the Matsumoku era.

Also, that's interesting about the price drop in the SB-1000CBs. Still would like to see something from Aria explaining the SB-CB! At least you have an Aria site for the UK, even if it mostly refers to the Japanese/International one. The Aria USA site has been down for a year or so...Have they really given up on the US market??

Yeah, it's very strange.... I might email Aria UK.

About Aria UK and USA, they're quite different actually. Aria UK is owned by Arai & Co (Aria's parent company) and Aria USA is just a website that the U.S. distributor uses. The distributor is SaintFishy's Distribution.

Made in Korea, huh? I guess that explains the much lower street price Brian D mentioned. I do wish I could get a connection to find out what Korean company/factory is making them since I am in Korea already. My guess is they don't even sell them in Korea, but a factory second would be nice. ;)

Yeah, I had a sneaking suspicion that it was now being made in Korea. I'll go out there this week and snap some pics and post a comparison to my SB-1000CB. ;) :bassist:

So i ended up getting that 5 stringer for $60. Lowballed the guy and I guess he did not find anything better so it came into my possession. A MIJ aria pro 2, 5 stringer. No electronics, but think its def worth it. Especially since it came with the case as well. So now that you guys have better pics. What PUPs should i get or would fit in?

Excellent deal on that 5 string! Heck, you can't get a case for less than $60 (with the shipping) on eBay. :) The Gotoh hardware alone is also probably worth $60.

I just got my old 5 string Integra back too! I will post pics tomorrow. I traded it back to my friend for a Fernandes Gravity 5 which has EMG-HZ pickups and will fit his sound better since he's already using Fernandes Tremor basses with the 'HZs.

It's weird, though, the Integra I am getting back has cracking on the pickup covers, I can't figure out how that happened.

As for pickups/electronics, just eyeballing the Fernandes with EMGs next to the Aria, I don't think EMGs would fit without some routing, but I don't know for sure. Bartolinis might fit. I guess the best bet is to measure the cavity and start checking online specs of pickups you want to try. Do you have any particular brand you want to try out? You could go cheaper, like Mighty Mite and a no-name pre if you're on a tight budget and could always upgrade later.

I wasn't thinking straight. I guess you wouldn't need a pre for Mighty Mites, right? The original models had bass, treble, balance, and vol knobs. I was thinking you might want to try and get close to the orignal specs. For passive you could go Vol/tone Vol/tone for MM's.

BTW, here is my Integra 5. You can see it's about the same as yours but the headstock shape is different. Sorry if the photos didn't come out very well, the monitor I'm using is very dark so I can't really see them that well!

I am actually debating going to the original specs now. You are one clever fellow, making me realize that it was made with that tone in mind. Gotta start my search now for a cheap decent preamp, some active pups, and someone who will put it all in for me. Anyway, hows your integra play? I'm dying to try the one i got out.

Hey folks.

I just picked up this beauty last week. Still waiting for it to arrive though, as it's in transit. It's an '80 LEFTY SB-900 I believe. I've always wanted a lefty SB1000, but I've never seen one for sale.

So other than the 2nd PUP, what's the opinion on the SB-900s or other 2 PUP SBs comparatively to the SB-1000? Are they as revered? Will I still be able to fake, "Hungry Like the Wolf" convincingly (talent aside). ;)

Did you ever find any info about the SB-CB? Hopefully some actual pics of it will surface soon.

Aria USA has finally updated their website...sort of. It's just a place holder for now, linking you back to the ariaguitars.com site.

Back on topic, here is my latest Aria Pro: an IGB-550 I retro-fitted with black hardware (Gotoh). I also swapped the original P'ups for some Ibanez SR1000E/DiMarzio pups as well as the preamp/circuitry. It has a lot more tonal variation now!
