Army to shoot live pigs for training

Please do not criticize the military if you never served in the military. I really don't care if you use bumper-sticker arguments to criticize Fox News, the President, or even the war, but do not blame this on the troops. You have no clue how the military works and why they do things until you join. I thought the I knew what it would be like before I joined, but I was dead wrong. I loved my time in the Army and wish that everyone in the country had to at least go though basic training. Also, any thing that we can do to help train soldiers for combat readiness is a good thing. Pigs have very similar skin to humans, in fact tattooists learn how to tattoo on pig skin. If I were to have had a soldier on my team that had been shot, I would have been less prepared to treat his wounds than I should have been, and that is simply unacceptable.

If they're killing the pigs, and still operating for training I see nothing wrong with it. Although I would hope they would still make good use of the meat. Especially after the PM's lectures on wasting food. :D

OTOH, If they are intentionally "wounding" the animal that is certainly a form of animal cruelty and shouldn't be allowed. I don't believe in animal rights, but I don't believe in animal torture either.:hmm:

Did you get to eat the pigs afterwards?

battlefield treatment techniques for minimizing bleeding and dressing don't work on corpses. Corpses aren't pumping blood. Corpses don't have vital signs you have to monitor.

guess what we inject animals with viruses and try to make them live as long as possible too in the interest of saving human lives.

It's all the same thing....

i simply thought it was hilarious. FOX news is nothing more than man-gossip here in the US, depending on who you ask (and you asked me, i'm assuming).
the info is not the issue, just the presentation. fair and balanced and all that...

can't vouch for its reputation in AUS.

If it's nothing more than man gossip, why is it KILLING all the other news stations in the ratings?? Don't hold the fact that they have HAWT anchors and reporters against them :D

That is how I feel. But I suck at getting my point across so I'll just say +1. :p

I imagine that after all is said and done they euthanize them then cremate the carcasses.

How is this different from any other animal testing? It, (animal testing) happens everyday, all over this country and countless others.
It sucks, but it's a necessary evil. Some things just are, end of story..

there is simply not enough info available for me to form an opinion.

what happens to the body after the pig dies?
what if it doesn't die?
will they put it out of its misery or will it die of the wounds?
are the pigs out when they are shot, or are they fully alert, capable of feeling pain?

all questions i'd like to know the answers to.

what happens to the body after the pig dies?

-likely cremation after being euthanized.
what if it doesn't die?

-it's not supposed to. The purpose is to treat it and keep it alive after suffering injuries that soldiers may in a war zone.

will they put it out of its misery or will it die of the wounds?

-It will likely be anesthetized as would an injured soldier so hopefully wouldn't suffer too much. Some may survive, others may die. I don't think they plan on injuring them in very specific ways - I don't know that you can with gunfire - but I could be wrong.

Dont know.

+1

I've never served in the military, but out of all the posts I've read in this thread I think that one ought to end it.
