If you're up the north end, I can highly recommend stumbling across the state line to visit Defiant Brewing. Not quite "brewed in NJ", but close enough.
A whole bunch of them already come over here on the weekends during the Summer...dang shoobies...Sorry, that's the best we can do.
It's hard to call a "best", but two that immediately come to mind are River Horse http://www.riverhorse.com/ and Flying Fish http://flyingfish.com/
The edge would go to River Horse Hop Hazard. Gooood stuff
Does it settle into just one tree? I was under the impression that the Jersey Devil was a nomadic creature who took refuge in caves.

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] looks right up my alley, although they don't use the 4th C in hops. (Columbus, Centennial, Chinook, Cascade) They only use 3, but that's OK. 8.5% ABV. is a nice, strong beer.
Both good breweries. I live about 5 minutes from Flying Fish so every liquor store around here carries it. But for some reason I don't see River Horse very often. I'll have to mention it to the place I usually go to. A few times they've ordered a beer simply because I asked about it.
In the late 80s I worked for the 30 hectoliter Brewery that use to be in Vernon @ Action Park. We brewed to strict Reinheitsgebot standards. The dude that ran the place (Jay Misson) has been called the father of the NJ microbrew culture.

You keep talking about pork roll without using it's proper name:Taylor Ham! Proper way to order: Taylor Ham& egg on a hard roll! Love those portugese rolls, chewy crust... haven't found anything like them out west, though I just discovered Taylor Ham here in the supermarket in Longmont. I always thought a great name for a band would be the North Jersey Diner Kings. Whateva!
First thing to do is to learn to tune them out... if not, you keep in mind the 'mob' part of that statement
and tissues are Kleenex and photocopies are Xeroxes... Taylor is my SECOND choice in Pork Roll... Shoprite 'Tangy' (as opposed to 'Mild') Pork Roll is what I buy.
And the PROPER way to order it out would simply be "Porkrolleggandcheese" with "saltpepperketchup" (though I am not a fan of ketchup on them myself). The 'hard roll' part is assumed

except if you walk into a deli in north jersey and order it that way you'll be laughed out the door. Proper order is a "Tayloreggandcheese, SPK".
