asked to sign autograph after a show

I went to a bar with my band after playing a show in worcester, ma. Two girls came up to me while I was at the bar getting a drink, asking for me to sign the backs of stickers we were giving out at the show. They asked for them to be personalized and I had no clue what to write.

My messages were:
"Keep on shining little star" &
"Brush your teeth!"

I don't know if I came off as a huge dork or just a guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. I'm hoping the latter.

Anyway, I'm curious what the TB'rs have written when they've signed autographs. Quotes from a song? Something insightful?

I would normally just sign using my "band signature" which is my name in a different form than if I were signing a check or something along those lines. I keep it pretty simple.

The best autograph I have ever received though was at a punk rock show where a member of one of the bands signed my t-shirt "Herbie (not John) Hancock." We then talked about our love for the movie Tommy Boy after that

Last year, I had a ''great to tell'' experience. 3 girls asked me to autograph their boobs. Now for the remainder of the story, I tell it very differently many times, lol. Real story is, I'm 42, they were 17-18-19 ish. They also were going totally nuts all night, probably a little (maybe a lot) of alcohol in them. Plus, they asked this in front of the stage, just besides the dance floor. I said I'd autograph their arms.

A younger version of me would have probably acted a little different,

Good call. Any number of things could have gone very wrong if you had honored their "request" to the letter.

As I said in another thread here a couple of weeks ago, I am continually mistaken for other people - to the point that I get autograph requests at places other than at gigs. My typical response is, "Who's name do you want me to sign?"

I've signed em before in a few of my original acts, past and present. It's flattering. I think it says the fan thinks your music could potentially go somewhere someday, and they want an early autograph that will maybe be worth MILLIONS!!!

i've signed a few posters & cd's after gigs. just signed my name though, my buddy always signs his as "way to go" i crack up every time he writes it. he also puts it on birthday cards & get well soon cards

I've normally written

"Thank you - until we meet again"

I then ask them to give a facebook thumbs up.

IF they've asked, I've normally given them some kind of free thing... gift.. trinket etc.

I've signed a few T-shirts when people have bought them at our shows...

No big deal. I sign my name (illegibly), write something lame on there like "Rock On" and then I chit-chat with them for half a minute, ask if they're having a good time, thank them for coming out and tell them where we're playing next and to bring their friends. Hardly takes up any of my break time and I figure it can't hurt.

In my attempt to sound cool back in the day, I used to quote a little Judas Priest, "Rock Hard, Ride Free..." I have bad handwriting as it is, so now I usually just sign my name.

I have found that most of the time, people aren't that interested in meeting the bass player anyway. When I was young and single that sucked, but now that I'm older and married it actually isn't all bad.

I didn't get it either. Bassist for a small jersey band? Who wants that guy's autograph? I couldn't say no though.

Ha, one time long ago (back in the 70's when I was in my early 20's) I was on tour with our unfamous/unsigned group and we stopped at a Burger King or something in NJ. A couple of hotties came up and asked for our autographs. We laughed and I asked them "Who do you think we are" to which one of the girls replied without a seconds delay "We don't know, but you look famous" so, of course we obliged.... good times!

Ahh, those were the days: giving autographs, parties, dusted drinks, getting laid during set breaks in the green room...

Now, the "autographs" are on all the checks for all the family med bills and other expenses, the parties are birthday parties at the inlaws, "dusted drinks" are the hot chocolates I make for my wife and son with Hershey's cocoa powder on top of the whipped cream, and, uh, well...I do have a son...his room has green carpet....
