Now I have to re-learn how to say it! I guess I've been lucky that the only time it really comes up in conversation is right here, so I type it instead of saying it anyway.

I'm having a JZ3 installed into my '83 Americano Jazz. The control cavity needed to be routed a little to fit the battery. I should have it next week.

Despite the owner of the company saying otherwise, to me Audere is either Oh Dear or Oh Dearie. Sorry, the other pronunciations are just too faux-foreign.
Now, 50 miles south of my house is the town of San Joe-Zay (San Jose)...
I take it that the people who said "I have one, I like it", that the implication is "the knobs are ok". Is this the case, or are people secretly despising the knob layout, but tolerating it because the thing just sounds so good?
the inpiut jack in my passive lakland JO is a bit scratchy right now and cuts out on occasion..im thinking baout buyign and audere jz3 instead of paying to have the passive layout fixed. hmmm.

my favorite and for the last 2 years only preamp I use on a bass. They just sound "right" to me.
random question, and i'm sure its been already asked, but how does it differ from the ol' sadowsky pre?
It's cut and boost versus the Sadowsky boost only. The EQ points on the two band are REALLY different.... higher bass, and a more hi fi treble tone when boosted... they are somewhat closer on the three band.
The Audere seems to be more of what many call transparent. I actually thought I didn't dig it much with the Nordy I had for a short time, but then realized it was the pickups I didn't dig at all (Big Singles). I played a similar passive bass with the Big Singles, and that bass sounded very similar to the Audere with Big Singles set flat. So, it does seem to be very transparent when set flat... moreso than the Sadowsky when set flat, which still has a 'fattening' sort of vibe to it IMO and IME.
The Audere does not have that 'super fattening' thing that the Sadowsky pre has when you boost the bass a touch... it's more subtle.. keeping the bass sound relatively intact, and just adding or subtracting low and high end.
I actually prefer the Sadowsky, although to me, that Sadowsky pre has two settings that are 'toneful'... flat, and just a touch of bass boost
On the negative size, I find the Audere Z switches relatively useless, with the low Z too 'boomy and mushy' and the high Z too nasal (I understand you can 'dial in' the high Z by changing caps... but never got around to that).
For a J bass, I prefer the Alleva pre to both the Sadowsky and Audere... but that would be another topic
On mine the internal trim pot for Low-Z will, in fact, provide the super-fattening effect if desired. I have not played the 3 position switch models, but the JZ5D's 2 intermediate positions- I think they are Low/Medium and Mediium/High?- are my favorite positions and very usable.
Good to hear, as I have a Nordy VJ4 on order with the same setup as your white VJ5. I tried out your new one at the NAMM show. Nice axe!
Seems like everybody likes them, and the few people that actually responded to the knobs question say It's Fine, No Problem.
So I'll stop worrying about knobs, go forward with the Audere, and just try to be patient waiting for the new bass.

The knobs are a very standard layout, nothing really different to like or dislike versus other pre's. I'm not much of a fan of all the concentrics on the three band models with passive tone control... but they are no worse than any other concentric pots.
The only negative I can see is the Z mode switch on some of the models. It is placed in-between the volume and blend, and it is quite difficult to switch 'on the go'. However, you probably wouldn't be switching that 'on the go' anyway... most seem to prefer one setting and pretty much leave it alone.

the knob layout is close but it is totally workable - I htink the BP guy was feeling he had to nit pick somehting or he'd come across as all glowing and stuff ...
(and they reserve that for the full page ad guys not the small ad in the back - only kidding, only kidding...)
The bass control is high at 100 hz but - it's a shelving control which brings up 100 - and every thing below it. So it thicken's up pretty well is my take, but ...
Anyone who doesn't balance the low -Z and Hi Z modes is missing a big part of the Awe-Dare eqaution IMO. There's been more than one night where my tone controls have stayed flat and any EQ variation came from the switch and the blend control and my hand placement.
To me the OP's observation that the sound of the pre, with the controls in neutral is his bass is spot on. That is why Awe-Dare (Awe Dave ?) is my pre of choice. I'm the anti pre guy. If it's noticible tonally - I'm not going to like it ...
If you want to hear an AweDare rock - try it with MFD humbuckers. It's definately a nice pairing.

I wonder why companies using the Audere as OEM pre's like Nordstand would not dial the high and low Z in correctly with their basses prior to shipping. Those high and low Z modes sound terrible in the 'factory default' setting, and IMO there aren't a lot of users who are going to order replacement caps for the hi Z tuning, or get into the cavity and mess with the control knob for the low Z IMO and IME.
i bought a 5 string mim jazz with barts and an audere. needles to say i am underwhelmed. any suggestions? my 55-02 kills it.
I've read and re-read and then again read everything I can get my eyes on. I'm sold on Audere.Ordered a JZ5 last week, It's gotten as far as Jersey, due in New York tomorrow and the anticipation is killin' me.....going into my 06 MIM Jazz that I'm favoring these days. Workbench is waiting. Looking out the window... When am I gonna grow up? More as it develops.
