Audere got it right!!!

Those are my thoughts exactly. My Bacchus Universe Series Jazz Bass clone came to me with an Audere and I'm blown away by it. Even though I'm an old, dyed-in-the-wool passive player, I had no problem with the concentric knobs and the Z mode switch. The Audere is a great piece of gear...it exudes quality.

I have been really intersted in the audere pres...however what kept me from ordering one so far is their hi end EQ points 2.5 kHz in the 2 band version and 3.5 kHz in the 3 band version.

For my understanding this falls more in the hi mid region....if i would go for an active modification of my trusted old J I´d rather like to get the 6-10 kHz hi-end zing out of it.

I mean what is the deal with an active EQ which sounds kinda passivish natural. If I´d go for the cumbersome active mod route I´d want the the Über-J Maple Ash Marcus Miller super zing funk sound as an option.

How is it in the real world ? You guys have any issues with that at all or am I totally wrong there.

Is Audere for me? Or should I rather look at an Sad or Augie outboard pre ?

Any thoughts suggestions ?

Anyone familar with the Classic 4 band? It appears to be a stripped-down version as it lacks a Z mode switch and battery indicator lamp. On the plus side, it can be configured to fit a 4 knob layout: Vol / Blend / Stacked Hi Mid + Treble / Stacked Lo Mid + Bass.

I've got a JZ5 and it is killer. I can't say how it colors or doesn't the pickups, because the bass was never passive. The best settings, actually, are the two mixed z settings. I can't remember off the top of my head, but it is the bassiest version of the neck pickup, and then either mid or trebleist bridge pickup depending on setting. Perfect for slap.

I had a Roscoe 5-string with Bart soapbars that originally had a Demeter preamp and I thought it was a good-sounding bass. I dropped in the Audere and.....

TOTALLY left the Demeter in the dust! Great transparent tone with very musical EQ points. It makes the Roscoe much more versatile.

I have the Classic. I didn't care for the Z mode switch so this one was right up my alley. Great preamp.

My only dislike, as was questioned above, is the eq point for the treble boost. It doesn't do it for me at all. The low end is good and the two mid frequencies are great. The low mid is the money.

This is all personal preference though.

I have the 3 band with two stacked knobs and z switch. I love it on my jazz bass. The extra control is what the jazz bass needed. Especially on the low end there is plenty of bottom. The least expensive way to add extra tone control. It won't make a bad sounding bass sound better, but it will expand the frequencies and give it more usable tones. I highly recommend it!

I got my JZ5 last night. Skipped dinner and rituals and installed it. Took an hour. Quick tested for connections and went out to play. First? This is a positive review, the plate with controls and components is first rate stuff. Better than Mil Spec. Added about a pound to the backend of my MIM Deluxe Jazz. I'm running Basslines btw. To pan fry it? I shoulda' brought a bigger amp. It came out of the box,into the bass and onto the riser. I brought the kickback Behringer I usually use and it held up bravely. I ran it centered at first and just rolled in and out of all the settings at random during the night.Can't wait to run the lowZ setting all out through one of my bigger rigs. Money well spent.My Jazz was a little lite in the boost,It required that I run it's boost wide open in order to get any life from the stock pre. Now I'm learning sublety. Only aside I have?, I would have preferred either a schematic or at least a simple wiring diagram as opposed to the text instructions (my old rotten eyes).But after that?, This pre is quality like I haven't seen in ages and I work in high end automobiles. Great work Audere. Once again? YMMV. But this might be the one you're looking for.

Does it seem like the Audere website has been spruced up? A lot more info on configurations and knobs etc. And possibly a new model. Or maybe I just didn't find these pages before.

And if they really did update the site, why didn't they put in something like: Say " Oh Dairy" or "Odor Ay" or whatever?
