I did an A/B earlier in this thread between the LDS 12/6 and T-Child cabs and the Shuttle 9. Both were great but I preferred the overall clarity of the T-Child. I'm really anxious to the the same A/B with my Streamliner 900, which is waiting for me at home when I return from extended travel.

Thanks, I am very interested in hearing what you think about the T-child and the Streamliner 900. I have a T-child on order and have been seriously thinking about the 900 as well.

Seven hundred clams (half up front) plus shipping. Delivery time currently 10 weeks ballpark.

Unfortunately it will be early March before I get to home to my SL900. Perhaps someone will beat me to the punch but I'll post my thoughts nonetheless.

Thank you kindly Duke. Hey, I "asked" and you simply answered. Can't see the harm in that. Color me intrigued and interested. I'll probably be in touch. :-)

I am currently doing a small-to-medium sized gig, but one that requires Punch, depth and tone, yet at modest live drum-kit volume where there is a dining/dancing crowd. My 1x12 Walkabout Scout was not quite full enough. It was loud enough, but lacked deep/full sounding lows.

I know it's trivial, but then it would look less like a PA speaker and more like a bass cab. Plus, I've never been a fan of the speaker grill that screws on over the driver. That looks like garden variety auto (car) subwoofer to my eyes. Effective and it works (and probably cheap and easy) But somehow it looks cheap to me.

Packaging can go a long way to the over all vibe. Just sayin.'

I hear what you're saying, and don't blame you a bit.

The way I see it, there are great cabs out there that have the look you want, and you can go custom if you want to. I'm aspiring to offer an alternative, not everything-to-everybody. Yes that round waffle grille does look cheap - it is cheap! That helps me to be competitive. Doing a low-diffraction cloth grille is probably possible, but would add cost with no sonic benefit over what I'm doing now.

Well, why not offer both? Limited time & resources; I'd rather put my R&D efforts into developing other "alterntives" to compete in other segments of the market.

What you describe is perfect for the Thunderchild, IMHO.

I have similar needs and I also had a walkabout scout 1x12 combo

I sold the cab, kept the head and am having Duke make me what I think will be the first Thunderchild 15! As noted earlier in this thread, the 15" version will be efficient enough to allow the relatively underpowered walkabout head to achieve large gig volume.

Can't wait!!

That will be very cool! A friend of mine just picked up an older Bergantino 115 cab. That cab had one of the sweetest crossovers and horns and the 15 is the least boomy I've heard. It made me re-think using a 15" cab because it was so smooth. So a 15" Thunderchild could be awesome! Keep us posted.

As some of you may know, I have been in the process of switching over to Italian Poplar plywood. It has taken longer than I hoped, but today I shipped the first Italian Poplar Thunderchild cab.

The weight is now down to 31 pounds.

Actually the weight reduction was not a full three pounds; I over-stated the weight of the original a bit because I didn't know how much variation in weight to expect from the plywood. It didn't vary as much as I was afraid of; I could have claimed 33 pounds instead of 34.

This also bodes well for the future 115 cabinet; that cab will likewise be constructed from Italian Poplar, and looks like it may come in slightly under 40 pounds.

My original plan was to use the off-the-shelf 3012LF in my 212, but I had so many people wishing it would use essentially the same woofer as the Thunderchild that I decided to have Eminence build me a bunch of 8-ohm versions of the Thunderchld woofer. That has set the 212 timetable back somewhat, but in the long run I think we'll end up with a better cab.

Thanks for your vote of confidence. If the 115 is anywhere near as well-received as the 112 has been, I'll be very happy.

Probably not. They both have long enough voice coils that excursion is unlikely to be the limiting factor, and they have identical thermal power handling.
