Story time, folks! Gather 'round, and hear another tale of the ever amazing
ThunderChild 118!
Last night, my new project had our 2nd gig. It was at a pretty good sized bar, who normally expect anywhere from 60 to 70 people for a good night. We (even though we were headlining, went on first as we like the extra soundcheck time and no rush to setup etc) went on at 9pm. Doors opened at 8:30pm, and we have
90 people packed into the place at that point!
Anyway, during setup the soundguy wasn't sure about my cab. He has a great PA in there, and thought my rig would mostly be used for on stage monitoring. He took a DI from my rig, and mic'd the cab (which, with my setup, is kind of odd since I run modeled cabs and amps). Anyway, I was there at 6pm and setup, and showed some of the other early folks my rig. Each bass player was interested in the little box, but each thought it was "cute" and probably not super capable. Even though it's an 18" drive, it is a small cab in overall size.
So, I start playing without PA support just to show what the cab can do. The venue is an odd shape - kid of inverted T shaped, with little cubbies added on. As I played, the others waled around to hear. I played a few riffs from a few of our songs - kind of prog rock / metal stuff, so some "chugga chugga", but some technical runs as well. After a couple of minutes, I asked how it sounded. One guy asked if he could use it (I let him), and another asked where he could get more information - he probably can't afford one for a long while, but wanted the info in case he came into some money. So I pulled up the website and emailed him the link

. The guy who used it for his set loved it, but his complaint was that it wasn't in his ears enough (he normally plays an 8x10, so has more driver closer to ear level). I suggested he could angle it back, or stack it on something to get it more at ear level. Not sure how much he liked it or if he was being nice, but he was pretty smiley about it.
So, @DukeLeJeune as of last night, a few more fans of your design were born. I'll need to bug you about a cab soon - I want a dedicated one for the Mrs., but have some thoughts I want to bounce off of you about it
