FYI: I do gig on upright. But I'm really not that good! There are folks on TB better able to give a good opinion about an URB through a 1203.

Having said that, I thoroughly enjoy playing my upright through the little 1203. Just played a gig tonight and I had no complaints. I use a AI Clarus 4plus on most of my gigs.

Let me add that the Hathor is the best cab I've played that straddles that line between "hi-fi" and "character". Even though the aren't any big dips or bumps in the frequency range the Hathor is anything but sterile. At least that's how I see it.

Thank you very much, Geni! The "character" side I learned by trial and error (mostly error). Feedback from bass players was the key to learning from my mistakes.

What I now try to do is, zig and zag the response of the Hathor cabs somewhat in places that seem to work well for electric bass, and then provide switchable smoothing to tame the more aggressive zigs.

But frankly, I just got lucky with the Hathor 1203. A fair number of bass players seem to think that cab hits the sweet spot, and no way am I that smart.

I wanted a cab for my home rig and also for use at gigs when I didn't want to haul the big stuff. This cab KILLED! It sounded soooo good! It can get very, very loud but still sound so clear and present. The lows were plenty low and the highs were just right, not harsh at all. I usually run an always on distortion, Darkglass pedals, and they sounded killer with both switches on the back in the up position. I wasn't missing anything at all in terms of volume, tone, and punch compared to the 610. It sounded like a much bigger cab. Can we call this a "super cab"? My bandmates even commented on how great it sounded and said "hey, you could use that at gigs". Well yeah, that's the idea! Our next gig is Dec. 2nd and I'll definitely be using the Hathor.

I'd like to give a big shout out to Duke for designing such an awesome cab! So far it has definitely exceeded my expectations.

The 3 I'm looking closest at are the F112, TC112, and MAS112. I've recently been reading more on these AK Cabs, and the size/weight/price is particularly appealing.

The twist is that I'm currently finishing up a basement studio/jam room, and will also need some sort of main PA type speakers as my studio monitors (Equator D5s) aren't big enough to fill the space. I've read that these cabs are quite flat, and can possibly be used as full-range speakers.

Wondering if anyone has any input on which of these 3 cabs (or other) cab may be able to serve both purposes well? Is there the possibility of adding some sort of additional crossover switch to go from "PA" to "Bass Cab" mode? Is this even required?

Duke's Thunder Child cabs are known to pull double duty for PA use, or a pair of Mike's MAS 109s.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the Smoothie.

I had a gig cancelled last night that was going to utilize both my 1203's. Was looking forward to opening the throttle a little with these cabs....Oh well....There's always more gigs...

I ended up not using the Smoothie at all last night on the gig. The sound guy uses his own limiter/compressor on the bass signal plus the distortion engine from the Darkglass compresses a little anyway. Using it at home so far it fattens up the tone nicely. I just didn't think I needed it last night because the tone was really good without it.

Thanks! Every now and again I get a bug up me arse about getting a comp pedal. The Smothie is at the top of my list.

I've also got the Diamond bass comp that I think I'm going to list in the classifieds. The Smoothie kinda does the same thing but with tons more flexibility. Although I'm not sure that I even need a compressor at all. I just like fiddling with pedals but rarely use anything more than overdrive on a gig.

hi this is jd I played shriggs final version of the 1505 at an out door gig under a tent the amp was a kustom kxb 500 using a ken smith bt custom 5string 1991 not going through the board. the low b string sounded unbelievable for such a small cab all the girls in the front had a smile on their faces LOL. this cab and other ones that duke has built are better tested out on the gig at various venues with different basses mixing with the whole band not by it self. the year before I used the 1203 on a similar out door gig and felt the 1505 had better low end response and bigger sound over all.
