These are power hungry cabs for sure. It takes a huge amount of power to make an outdoor gig work.

AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

I gotta say I was impressed with how much volume I was getting from my two 112 cabs stacked. And not just volume, but low end and low mid range clarity at such high volumes. That's what I was hoping for with these cabs.
Never doubted that, Duke. Your reputation is sterling and your cabs are wonderful. The amp seems the likely culprit and I'll see if I can test that in some way first. Thanks!
of late i'm playing a bone stock late model am std P w/ labella 760 flats, a D800 & 2 H1203s. the cabs are reeeeal nice, i love 'em - but i know i could make 'em distort like the devil if i tried or got real careless. ANY cab will distort. i got the loud blasting out of my system a long time ago, so i play with nice, firm, but toneful, volume. that's what the knobs are for!

Interesting. I'm with you in that I'd rather play at reasonable volumes - been doing this a lot of years. What puzzles me is that I have a head that at least on paper is a good match for the cab, I play with a light touch, and in one of the instances where it broke up it was with a 4 piece band that really wasn't playing all that loud. I was careful not to overdrive the amp's front end as well. Others on this thread have suggested the Markbass head to have a gritty mid when pushed - something that doesn't show up as much on cabinets with less clarity - or maybe comes across as warmth. More study to be done.
that stuff can be difficult to suss out sometimes. if you play with a light touch at moderate volume but still experience bad sound, then yeah, maybe it's the amp head. one of my failings is i tend to play too hard. it's a tone killer and it retards technique. it's forced me to be very conscious of EQ, though. i really take to heart that old EQ saw " subtraction before addition. "
Exactly, we always have FOH support, even indoors. We use inearz, just trying to develop a little "feel the bass". Love this cabinet, but if it were today I think I would lean towards one of the Duke's 15's with midrange.
Didn't mean to upset anyone with my reply and experience with the quilter amplifier I stated it was my opinion.i should have noted that all my basses have three band eq with mid shift points. So for me I can adjust to a room with just my bass if needed. I was personality tired of amps with baked in tone and too many tone options I just wanted to hear my bass as it is ,say if I were going direct line I do also use a darkglass pedal and adjust tone from there too. It's all apples and oranges one man's cup of tea won't taste right to someone else if you know what I mean.

in lieu of a gig ( mad face! ) went to a big jam last night. brought my hathor 1203s, d800, & labella 760f equipped P. lot of people, lot of players, at this guy's workplace warehouse. i mostly used a pick ( dunlop ultex approx. 1 mm? ) and
that rig sounded so authentic, so rockabilly/roadhouse, yet so clean and clear, that i scared myself.
i'm the first to admit it's not real good for " donna lee " or " come on, come over " however!

on a cultural, sociological, note, one other thing: the invite was adamant about " no drugs. " 30 or so people showed, including a half dozen players + wives, girlfriends, their neighbors, etc.
the micro brews started flowing, and soon enough cannabis haze wafted. the host is no dummy, wasn't in the least surprised or ticked off, but felt compelled to say " tsk, tsk, c'mon you guys, what the hell? i thought i said no drugs. " the offenders, feeling slightly insulted, replied " i know! we didn't bring any drugs. this is weed. " hee, hee. i was LMAO.

It's hard to believe now that long ago I dealt with it all for many years. I'm not judging others, but am reporting my own experience of the difference. Over here, in my little bubble of reclusion and highly selective exposure, the air is calm and clear. There is scant opportunity for useful change that results from chance connections. But also there are no distractions; no inefficiencies created by others.
Anyway, just a thought.
