i’m trying to remember what i did that day.

the bass is an 85 fodera 6-string with a wacky custom nordstrand pickup. dead strings.

probably an old ART tube pre set pretty hot into an old ART tube compressor into a tecamp puma 500.

@steubig...thanks for sharing! That's a really cool song and your note choices throughout beautifully connect the chord changes. And a very nice tone to boot! I've been enjoying various AK cabs for years...I currently use TC112v4s and they sound blissful to my ears. I do have a Hathor on order just to see what all the commotion is about but I doubt that it will replace my TCs...maybe just supplement.

Anyway, thanks again for sharing!

jeremiah was apparently pretty high in the last american idol. he blew off their ideas about how he should record so he could do it the way he wanted. that gets big points from me.

Quick stop-thru before rehearsal....

I've been learning a lot of how my Hathor 1203 interacts with various bass configs via the Quilter BB800 head.

'60 Fender P with flats? Soooo much low end. I gigged at a place called Emily's in Ellijay, GA a few weeks ago with some acoustic guys and had to dial DOWN the bottom on the Quilter! Next one, I think I'll try adding a plug to see what shakes out.

5-string with Bartolinis? The cabinet's focus on the 1st overtone of the low B really makes it shine. 7-string with CAP singles? Big and delicious, and when I flip up the mid horn switch, ppl start asking where the bi-amped guitar box is; the high range just sings.

EMG active pickup set? Tight and punchy and somehow even more aggressive. I've been practicing some slap (don't worry, it's for good reason) on this and the 5-string, and with the gain fairly cool on the BB800, I'm getting all the quick snappiness I need from the 1x12 along with chunky lows.

So far, not even a moment of uncertainty about the choice of rig.

I did read the some posts about Duke. What I can say don’t worry, He’ll delivery it.
My cabs took a while but is here.
I got the TC 112 first and a few weeks later the H1203.
Duke is a honest guy.

it's been quiet, so i'll pump up the volume with a bit of self-pimping.

first, it's funny, i fell hard for the tc112v1 and the hathor12v1. i got the ct112 and have gone back and forth on it a lot. then i realized i was taking it to almost every gig and recording session.

anywho, this is an ak cabinet. i think mostly miced, might be some direct in here too. tbh, i'm not sure if it's the tc or ct, but i think it sounds good either . . . other than a few flams here and there. producer's vibe is to *not* pro tools everything to death . . .

I missed this first time around - awesome stuff.

I'm curious about the guitar solo tag out. Sounds like you're playing a single note on one and the and of two while the drummer is playing double eighth notes. Was that discussed or just happen, and did you not choose to do the same? I find things like that to be interesting.

this was a while back, so from memory: mostly head arrangement. a few things were discussed (i had to double a piano line, that i then decided to extend—so i checked on that—which they then doubled in the string overdubs). the part you’re asking about was up to me. i thought it might be too busy with me doubling the kick and the tag sorta reminds me of high-heeled boys, so i wanted something that felt more like that (from whatever cloudy memory i have of that).

Yeah, I thought the double kick kinda got in the way of the groove (I assume he wasn't literally playing double kick, but rather was just doing two 1/8th notes). Not sure if it is me listening as a bass player first, but it pulled me away from the guitar solo which I think probably isn't the point ;-)

Last I heard from him via email about 3 weeks ago, he was dealing with an aging parent issue which was delaying his production.

I've emailed him a few times in the last few months. took a few days but he got back to me

I hadn't actually planned on that, but no reason why it can't be done. Worst case scenario, might have to make the recess for the handle on top a little bit narrower, like a half-inch or so, because of the depth required for the magnet on the 5" mids.
