@DukeLeJeune , are you currently making 1506 cabs? And are they the same size as the old 1505 (for easy stacking)? Thanks for all that you do for the bass community here.

The 1506 has the same footprint as the 1505. If stacking two, I'd lay 'em on their sides if possible, stacking or alternating the midrange cones as the situation suggests.

Haven't started taking new orders yet though. Prices will unfortunately go up mainly due to the cost of plywood having tripled (last I checked).

@DukeLeJeune what kind of drivers are in here in case I need a replacement?

My Birdhaus 48 has started producing static/fizzy artifacts during and sometimes at the tail end of notes. Hard to explain. Not a constant noise. I'm going to open it up and see if there's a loose connection.

It's not farting out or cutting out, just the static fizz. I thought it was the amp but I tried a different amp. I don't think I could have blown a speaker. I haven't pushed it too hard, not over 500w, but you never know.

I'll report back after I look inside and check the drivers.

I had a noise similar to what you are describing and it turned out to be my X-Vive wireless unit. Of course, that was the last thing I checked.

Thanks for that. Is that also how you would stack a TC115v1 (horizontally-oriented compression driver) and a 1505 -- on their sides?

Lumber is down off of its highs of early summer, but still expensive. Hope it continues to come down, mainly for your sake. I'm looking forward to finding another 1505/06, either in the Classifieds or once you start building again!

It did by yesterday's dollars as well. Fortunately I didn't pay retail for them.

Back when I was able to crank out cabs much faster, my business plan was this: Lose money on every sale, but make up for it in volume.

No one who knows your products Duke will ever accuse you of not offering an exceptional product (design, components, and build quality) for a very fair price...and I think most of us who appreciate your work would agree that you could charge a little more, actually make some walking around money, and we'd still be getting a bargain price.

If I see a clear window of opportunity to do something that is an imo worthwhile improvement and within my capability, and I'm no longer way behind on orders, then maybe.

You had me at "noisy rock knucleheads," and my senses tell me that you're probably more Duke's kind of people than you realize.

As for running out of steam ... I know that I posted this recently, but here it is again: these amps (the QSC PLX on the bottom) and their slightly-less-powered brethren are widely available for a fraction of their original list price. Highly recommended.

A big analog meter (maybe marked in kV, and on a panel about three rack spaces high) with a great big knob next to it would enhance that effect...

...actually, maybe a second smaller rack case on top of the current one. The second case would be entirely taken up by the big VU meter and knob.

Maybe a Jacob’s Ladder on top too, arcing away.

While I might not have been able to physically afford paying more for a while longer, the price I paid for my triple-port Hathor 1203 was damn good and I would have paid more, especially in retrospect.

I doubt I'll ever need more amp than I have now (Quilter BB800 thru Hathor + some Sushi Box & Barber et al pedals), but if I ever make it to arena status, all I'm looking for then is a twin.

If I ever move to a place big enough to hold an upright bass, I might get a Thunderchild.

Feels good to know a certain tone quest is fully concluded!
