Nope, so far I haven't found an uber-10 woofer that I really like. The Kappalite 3010LF is very capable, but by the time I tame its response curve (which imo needs taming for bass guitar), the cab would cost and weigh more than the Hathor 1203, and it wouldn't be as capable.

edit - Steubig got it. The 1203 is my cheatin' uber-ten.

Sorry, I don't have any idea what 10's Alex is using.

To follow up on previous ten-talk... the little Birdhaus (which uses four 6" cones) might arguably be competiton for a 110 cab.

So a few more data points for those playing along at home. Last night was Steely Jam at a packed indoor venue. I ran the TC112-8 and H1203 stack. Plenty of booty, and if anything I think for the tone I go for the H1203 stack is probably a better fit. That said, no complaints from anyone. But to contrast that, today was an outdoor jazz hit and I took just the TC112-8. Plenty of mids and nice support. I did the same gig a month ago with a single H1203 which covered it but I think the TC112-8 covered it better.

So for me, this is starting to make sense. A single H1203 will cover most of my indoor jazz hits no problem. A pair of them will punch like nobody's business. The TC112 is the "I need some wider lows to fill things out" cab, at least for me. Indoors I end up cutting a bit of lows with it. But outdoors it really help keep things reasonably thick. And if you dial in a bit more mids it'll cut though not quite as effortlessly as the H1203.

Another issue with 1*10's, is that they start encroaching on practice amp and small combo territory. There are price and convenience issues involved, as well as size and weight.

In my case, the gigs that I use a small combo for are hurried affairs: quick/difficult load in and out, no stage, low volume, bad acoustics and short set lists. Nursing homes, homeless shelters, that sort of thing. They aren't always places where I want to take my best gear, either.

Tone is still important, but the plug-and-go convenience of a combo is critical in those situations.

The only way I could see Duke cashing in on that market, would be a cab that had a dock. Given the lack of standardization amongst small heads these days, the dock would be a design challenge in itself.

I have a couple of Birdhauses in my next batch of boards, and maybe one of them could "make the rounds" if people are interested.

Not the best quality - the recorder is sitting on a ledge behind my amp so not getting any mains (with vox/sax/keys). But good enough for govt work

Btw, holy s***! The TC212 is a beast with the VTBP-M-800D. Keeerist! I think a TC112 is in my future, the 212 is no joke!

One thing I just remembered, however. I don't know if it's the bass, the amp, or the cab, but the B string on my Victor Bailey sounded distorted/kinda farty. I did not expect that. All the ports in the cab were plugged, so I need to see what it does when they're open, but that was a bit of a disappointment. Who knows, maybe the bass needs a couple of fresh batteries, I don't know when they were last changed.

Congrats! Now, get in line........ As of today, I'm half way into my waiting period. I am usually very calm when waiting on new toys, but I have to be honest, I can't wait for the 1203's to be delivered. However, you never want to rush quality!
Ready to check them out. I got Monique and a new Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 just waiting to plug into the 1203s.

I will have them in time for our last two big shows of the year. Lots of my bass playing friends will be sharing the stage with me in November.

I would very much doubt it's the cab. The TC112v2, 8 ohm, has a ton of low end. Authoritative, powerful, and definitely capable of dealing with low B. I can only imagine what the TC212 would be like.

Yes, I'm fairly certain it's the bass. I bought the VB used and I don't know when the batteries were last changed and it also needs a set up. I suspect it's either battery related or pick up height. My Echolution was also having issues, I was getting delay thump even when it wasn't engaged so I removed that from my signal chain. All that said, my Squarmoth fretless and my Hwy One sounded unbelievably good, so I'm near certain the issue is the VB itself. This rig is simply beastly. I think a TC112 is in my future as well.
