AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

I would very much doubt it's the cab. The TC112v2, 8 ohm, has a ton of low end. Authoritative, powerful, and definitely capable of dealing with low B. I can only imagine what the TC212 would be like.
+1

I doubt its the cab as well. I also play keyboard bass in my gig with some fat sub low bass tones (well below low b on a bass) and my TC112 handles it with no problem.

Just got my Demmie. Haven't checked yet but doesn't it have a trim pot somewhere to adjust gain? It could be your gain structure.

Since the bass needs work anyway I'm going to pursue that route first before I go messing around in the amp's innards. If a set up and new batteries don't solve the mystery of the farty B, that will probably be my next step. Especially since my other two basses sound so damn good through the rig.

imho a 1-10 wouldn't really cut it on most gigs whereas the H1203 actually will cover it. And a pair of the H1203s is 50 lbs total and badass...

Todd have you run full-range music through the Hathors? I'm scheming away, thinkin' a pair of H1203's could do double duty as small PA speakers…

Also, has anyone tried running two Hathors side-by-side instead of stacked to get more of that "open chamber mids escaping through slot" effect?

...The TC212 is a beast with the VTBP-M-800D. Keeerist! I think a TC112 is in my future, the 212 is no joke!

One thing I just remembered, however. I don't know if it's the bass, the amp, or the cab, but the B string on my Victor Bailey sounded distorted/kinda farty. I did not expect that. All the ports in the cab were plugged, so I need to see what it does when they're open, but that was a bit of a disappointment...
Probably not the case in Marial's situation, but that was something I didn't like about the Monique/Demeter/TC112 pairing.

I'm guessing that neither the Monique nor the Demeter have much if anything in the way of low-passing. They stressed the woofer at surprisingly low volume, in a way that even my MB800 doesn't.

If I was using that combo on the gig, I would definitely want an HPF in my signal chain, just to protect my Thunderchild.

Not the best quality - the recorder is sitting on a ledge behind my amp so not getting any mains (with vox/sax/keys). But good enough for govt work

Love those songs. You guys nail them. Sorry if you said this somewhere, but what bass/strings/amp were you using? Was this tc112/1203 or 2x1203? Thanks, DM

Thanks. The band has its moments.

Peg and Home at last are the Fodera Yin Yang Deluxe with Fodera nickel round wounds 40-100. Kid Charlemenge is a Smith BSR-5TN with Smith stainless 45-130 run passive (preamp is fried - now on its way back to KS for a fix). Amp is Monique/Minnie and cabs are one H1203 sitting on top of a TC112-8.

Thanks for the info. Sweet. So 2x1203 would have more grind or bite, obviously. Have you (or anyone else) tried the 1203(s) with flatwounds? Did those tame the grind/bite but leave enough to be grindier/bitier (how's that one?) than the tc112? (Sorry, again, if this has already been discussed.)

BTW, I practiced last night for the first time with a Glock Blue Sky through a tc212 and it sounded great with a short scale P bass I have with LaBella DT flats, and the cab definitely let the Glock grind shine through. I usually set amps pretty flat, but I may have to start turning up for kicks.

Pretty sure there's an internal trim pot -- maybe even two (one for each input)... oh, wait. I'm thinking of the HBP (and even there I'm not positive, but I think I saw one when I changed the tube)... don't know about the new amp. However, I think I read about someone having their tech replace the internal trimp pot on an HBP with an external gain control. I'd love to do that with mine, but don't know if it would fit anywhere on the front panel! Also don't know if there would be other, technical issues, but I like having a gain control.

EDIT: Thinking about trim pots and re-reading the post about the VB bass, I don't know what it's got for a pre, but you might look to see if there's a trim pot in there, too. I had a bass with an East U-Retro -- I found that to be a hot pre, well above unity gain even with the pots dialed down. With the trim pots up any amount, the output overdrove the front end of many amps, including my Demeter HBP. Result: farty low notes. Recall a dying battery on a Bart NTMB resulting in farty notes as well, though the flatulence was of a subtly different variety.

What are the stats on the Birdhause? Anticipated size, weight and price?

18" tall x 10" wide x 15.5" deep, about 23 pounds, I'll PM you about price.

The Birdhaus has two front-facing 6's in a vertical line, and then a side-firing 6 on either side. The idea is an acoustic jamcab where the priority is, you want your buddies to be able to hear you well, but still have enough output out front for coffeehaus gigs. Weight is higher than I'd like, but the padded (recessed) handle and quasi-suitcase-shape (so that the center of gravity is closer to your body) should make it a little bit easier one-hand schlep than most cabs of comparable weight. Or so I hope.

Spoke with Duke via email a little while ago and I am in for a h1203. After having had the tc112 v.1 it will be great to try out the next thing. Been playing with a Baer ML112 for quite some time. I'm really excited to hear how this different voicing on an AK cab will work out. I know that for me personally cabs like these (woofer, mid, and a single trip to carry all my equipment) have really fit the bill for the large amounts of overdrive, delay, reverbed and rotaried signal I've given them. Will be playing with my Tecamp Puma 900 and more recently acquired Baer Valkyrie Amplifier. This will be a treat!

Had a chance to turn the new rig up a little over the weekend and, as expected, it's the best sounding rig I've ever had. Together, the VTBP-M-800D and TC212 are warm, articulate, and extremely responsive to dynamics and attack. Really, the only con I can come up with, if it can be considered a con, is that this rig is mercilessly transparent. There is no mush to cover for sloppy technique. That said, the sound is incredibly musical, with no harshness. I was playing my fretless and, more than through any other amp/amp-cab combination, it sounded like the bass does unplugged, only louder and with more wump. For reference, this was with all the ports open. What a glorious sound.

The only problem is that now I want a 4 ohm TC112 to go with the 212. I don't think I realized just how much of a beast this combination is when I was ordering. I think I could blow down a barn with the amps volume set at ten o'clock, let alone anything past noon.

Getting rid of old iron and 15's. Time to go small. My Demeter VTBPM800D should be here in three~four weeks. I'm going for the dual 12" mojo. The Fearless F212 is out of my price range, and still a bit large to pack and carry. I talked to Mike and he felt one MAS 112 is plenty, so I have a MAS112 (with the EighteenSound 12") coming in about the same time as my Demeter should arrive.

Now I find about these! I play rock, so I was looking at a either a pair of the H1203's for lighter carry and the option to bring just one; or the TC212 if that dual 12 offers something a stack of 1203's can't deliver.

Any suggestions or is everyone here having the same quandry?

Pair of H1203's FTW!

Killer modular setup for sure.
