I thought about modding one of his twelves myself, but it would be beyond my paygrade to develop and install a midchamber on it.

There is basically zero difference between the 3012LF and the 3015LF in terms of frequency response in the "gut punching" area -- just 3db more sensitivity for the 15. The 3012LF is a seriously special woofer.

The only huge difference is on the top end, where the 3012LF is far more appropriate to be crossing over at 800hz than the 3015LF.

Get one of those sealed basket OEM mids that's in the TB153. Dave might be able to sell you one with the 112--not sure how the rules work on that though.

Also, the alphalite CBMR itself would be far better than nothing for the top of a 3012LF.

Now you're talking. It wouldn't be too hard for Avatar to do all this and offer it up soup to nuts, right? Of course, I don't manufacture cabs, and don't know what they need to do to remain profitable.

I just did my own 5" mid in place of the tweeter in my avatar
12lf and simply siliconed the tupperware container of my choice in as a mid chamber:p (burdizzos mod spec'd mid)
Sounds great with the eminence pbx2800 ? crossover.
Some day if I see a 3012lf at a great price I will put one in.
My keyboardplayer is using the cab on top of my standard Avatar 2x12 neo and says they sound like a grand piano all together! 3 neo 12's mid and tweet;)

The SB112 is a better fit for a 3012LF + midrange retrofit imho. A 3012HO can go about half the weight of an SB112 with a box around half the size. Doesn't really gain that much from the bigger box.

At least, that's my recollection; it's >2ft net, or so, yeah?

Give or take...I'm not really looking at making a project of it, more just to make it a nominally useful cab again (probably for keys). I could fit a sealed back tweeter, or cobble together something, but I'm not feeling highly motivated at the moment. ;)

Er, the L-Pad of the house bass cab (a modern, respected 410) at the venue where I work burned out just last month, rendering it inoperable. Company was kind enough to send a replacement L-Pad.

I calculate that not including ports (which have more than sufficient area for a 3012LF -- minimum of around 30 square inches it looks like) you should have as much interior space as a fEarful 12/6, just about. Right around 2.4 cubic feet net I'd guess.

More than adequate.

Since it's got a deltalite, chances are good that the tuning is a little on the low side, but I really don't know..probably not enough to make a big difference.

We've discussed this in the fEarful threads pretty fully. You're looking at placing a mic in between at least the 15 & the 6 (presumably taking the tweet into account), then moving it as needed to make adjustments. I personally would do it maybe 6" out and tweak positioning as needed.

The real story is that if this cab is as transparent as a fEarful, you gain nothing by micing, and you should highly consider going direct. I've been to a few gigs where sound men have preferred to mic rather than DI and I've let them put a mic on the 15...knowing that my cabs would be carrying the room anyway. ;)
