In all honesty, I think all that mid horn placement stuff earlier in this thread is a bunch of mumbo jumbo. There are absolutely No issues perceivable to the human ear that arise from that placement, period. As far as weight, that is definetely where the other designs have an advantage. I have a little flip dolly that I load my whole rig in and out with in one trip, so I really don't notice the weight until me cab is lifted on stage, and even then I don't think it is really very heavy at all. Anyway, if the other fearful designs sound as good as this little 4ohm beast, you will be one happy Chef!

Well, two things:

1) science would say you're wrong.
I'm not at all saying the differences in placement would be huge, and perhaps not even noticable under most circumstances, but to say they're not there isn't accurate.

2) I'd just flat out prefer the taller profile.

Not really mumbo jumbo...but then in the grand scheme of the average gigging bass player it probably doesn't amount to much anyway. This cab configuration is a HUGE step up from traditionally designed cabs and I think everyone who's bought one can see that. I think the mid/horn placement issue comes down to the feeling that if you're going to make the effort, then go all the way, and don't stop a couple feet short of the finish line. Of course, in the case of Avatar, I'm going to guess that concerns of cost and build ease are probably the reasoning...especially for a result that most people WON'T notice or, if they do, it will be minimal. I'm not going to say that I have golden ears in any way...too much hearing loss, etc. for that! But I do think in my case I'd like to have every chance to provide the best possible sound from my rig.

Fortunately, my ears tell me that science would only be detectable by the super human auditory prowess of police dogs! I only run the tweet at 10% any way just to add a touch of top end sizzle when a song requires that I slappa da bass. As far as the taller profile, I would love to A/B that as well. One of the most surprising things to me about the TB-153 so far is that when I am standing near or over the cab, i can hear it much better than my Genz Benz Neox 212t even though the GB cab is taller. I think it has to do with the incredible feel it in your chest low end production of that 3015lf 15' driver, and the dispersion of the 6' speaker.

Concur;
The TB153 is the same 410/212 box they already build, with different cuts in the front baffle, right?

Exactly. Let's be honest, if Dave had to have a new box "designed"/built, and have a different production run, you're going to end up paying more for your cab. In this case, assuming that sale of this cab doesn't cannibalize his sales of 410 and 212 cabinets, then he can probably REDUCE the overall box cost because he'll be ordering in even greater quantity.

I would love to hear your comments on the mid + tweet placement after you ACTUALLY play one of these boxes. It really is mumbo jumbo imo fellas. I'm sure science would support the superiority of graphite necks as well, but until you play this box, I can't take the regurgitation of Greenboy and others 'information' who have an interest in casting doubt on this box seriously.

You hear the diff b/t this cab, and conventional cabs, right?
If you can't take the regurgitation of Greenboy and others, sell your TB153, because without him/them, you wouldn't have it.

Absolutely true. I think this configuration will be as standard as a 4x10 configuration after more players have had a chance to try it. Speaking of 4x10's, someone invented that configuration too, but now we all judge thos boxes based on other criteria. FWIW, it really doesn't matter what other configurations Avatar throws in this box; what matters is how incredible the 15'/6'/1' configuration sounds in it. It's Apparently one heck of a box! 60 gigs in with this box, I truly really blown away in every way. Don't knock till ya try it..that's all I'm sayin....and I'm saying it in a playful way...not in a d*ck way! That's what these :) are for!

Exactly. Besides, until someone has both this & a cab with the other spacing side by side, we won't know how audible the difference is. But discounting it out of hand as mumbo jumbo, given that we're talking about cold hard physics isn't the side of the fence I want to be on.

His interest has always been in seeing them make the best possible box at their price point. You saw their first stab at a 3-way, right? It was pitiful, frankly.

I've built more iterations of this sort of design than anyone I know of. They all sounded pretty good, some more so than others. I have nothing to sell, and I'm not telling which one sounds best, or how I got there. ;)

I will say that lots of stuff sounds great until you hear the other stuff that sounds even better. No idea if this holds true in the case of the Avatar cab though, but I'm looking forward to hearing one.

Also, physics is cool, Einstein and Karl Sagan trult do float my boat, but as a guy with 60 plus gigs under the belt with this cab, forgive me if the insight being offered by those with 0 under the belt seems a bit less informed.

Just curious: which other cabs in this format have you actually gigged with?

None. Send me one on a trial basis and when I realize the superiority of that design I will promote it as passionately as the TB-153 :) I know Lomo and others own both, and he says they are quite comparable tonally...however he does prefer the lighter weight of the LDS design.
