Okay so here is the deal. I'm interested in adding either a 4ohm B210 or B212 but I'm concerned that I'm going to overpower it with my poweramp, running in stereo. My Current B410 is @ 4ohms.

What scares me is that 550 @ 4ohms 1ch 40Hz (1 cycle).

Is that too much power for the B210/B212?

Considering options:

Go with 8ohms

Bite the Bullet and get a 2nd B410

Conclusion:

The rhetoric in the poweramp manual has me concerned that I'm going to overpower a B210/B212 rated at 500 watts 4ohms. I am unsure if I am misinterpreting the power ratings. Perhaps my understanding is off a bit. Perhaps I will be safe with the B210/B212 and not maxing out the channel level. Help me make an informed decision.

It'll get too loud to stand before you can hurt it.

question for anyone using 112-212 set up,both cabs being 8ohm if running with 480w head at 4ohm do you notice much tone or volume difference between the to cabs being one rated at 500w and one at 250w? i imaging more volume out of the 212 but how do you like the 2 together.

I haven't talked to Dave about it but I'm sure the economy has something to do with it. Consulting the website lists the B212 at $369. If you are in Canada I'm sure there may be duties, taxes and the exchange rate. Cost of doing business.

I know I paid about $400 for my B410 in black tolex...I picked it up. They are now $439 in rat fur. So that is a price increase for sure.

I argue that similarly rated cabs are still quite a bit more.

$369 here. Most of the difference is Import Duties / exchange rates.

My understanding is that the cabs are constructed somewhere in the midwest and then shipped to Avatar for speaker loading and tolexing.

That's not what Dave told me on the phone about a year ago.

I'm not that crafty.

It comes to like 560$ for the 212 with shipping. And that's with just the basics, no casters, no fancy covering or grill material. That's just to much for me, especially a 212. The 410 is like 600$ or something. Nonsense it is.

I really wish avatar had as many cosmetic option for their bass cabs as they do for their guitar cabs. I love the way avatar cabs sounds, im just not so keen on the looks. I enjoy the classic look a little more, grill cloth, tolex, flat metal corners. I would love to have their kind of build control in designing an 810.

man that 4x10 has some monster casters on it, i just put some 2" ones on my cab today.
the orange grill looks better then the tan, im thinking about chroming mine

I was thinking the same thing about the casters... never really noticed how huge they were until I looked at the pic... I got them at a garage sale for 2 dollars for a set of EIGHT. brand new, still sealed in plastic. four were swivels with locks, the other four were non swiveling. couldn't pass that deal up. so I threw the swiveling ones on there. no idea what I did with the other ones, LOL

Yes I'm quoting myself, but there is a method to my madness.

Okay, I'm still brainstorming and I'm thinking that this can turn into a R.O.D. if I play my cards right. I quoted my original post so that the manual can be referenced for the following stream of thought.

Originally I was thinking about getting the B210 Neo at 4 ohms. That cab is rated at 500 watts. In looking to the future I'm considering adding the B212 Neo @ 4 Ohms also rated at 500 watts. With both cabs that drops the impedance down to 2 ohms opening the amp up to ~780 watts on that side. My question is are the watts divided up between the 2 cabs? This is what it would seem to me...I'm just looking for some reassurance. Surely that isn't pushing ~780 watts to both cabs.

EDIT: Just as a side note; I'm considering this poweramp and retiring teh SVP to lighten up the load as well as dropping drop down to a 4 space rack as opposed to this 6 space monstrosity.

If both cabs are the same impedance, yes, the load will be evenly divided.

I wouldn't hesitate to run a 1200 w/ch amp into a 210/212 stack. That's called "headroom".

You're worrying far too much about this.

The stack is rated @ 1000w. 780w isn't going to hurt it.

If you hear the speakers start to fart/break-up (with no distortion added to the signal), you're pushing them too far.

I run 560w into my 212. With the volume at 12:00, it's Holy S**t LOUD.

Let your ears tell you what is going on.

Plug it in, crank it up, and have some fun !!!

Thanks for pointing that out....I see that now re-reading the specs.

Looks like I'll need the 02 version, but damn they are pricey.
