average jazz weight?

depends on the model, era, type of wood, etc ... of what I have had, some of the 70's Jazz basses are in that 11 pound range ... on a general average I would say an average probably about 9-9.5, but there are some @ 8 lbs out there and also some well over 10 ... I have 3 between 8 and 8.5, one a hair over and one about 9 ... if you didnt know the one you just got was going to be 11 lbs, that is why us panzies ask and are so adament to know before we purchase ...

I figured it was all over the place. This bass kind of came together when I got a great deal on the neck and body. It wasn't one of those projects that I thought through. The neck and body fit great and the bass sounds really good, but I'm just not sure if it's "too" heavy for me.

What is the average weight of a jazz bass? I just got a Warmoth that is pushing 11 pounds and it feels really heavy. Just wondering if I'm being a wimp!

You aren't being a wimp. 11 pounds is brutal, and IMO there is no reason for owning a bass that heavy. At best, there is a weak correlation between weight and 'tone', and the differences are not in a constant 'better or worse' direction.

As posted above, the typical newer Fender J has a weight range of between roughly 8.5 to around 9.5 pounds. So, average weight is around 9 pounds.

Some of those awful 70's J's can get up over 11 pounds!

IMO, 9 pounds is kind of the 'sweet spot' regarding having enough mass to sound great but not so much weight to be a problem on the gig.
