Double Bass Azola EUBs Megathread

New owner of an Azola Bug bass here. I think it is an earlier model; it has single pick up on bass side of the bridge, and the bridge rests on a metal plate. Does anyone know where to find a serial # on the bug bass? I'm curious to know how old this bass is. I am enjoying learning to play this upright style instrument, coming from bass guitar background. I'm making progress, and it is a pleasure to play! Thanks to the info on this thread, I have some new Helicore hybrid lights coming soon. Thanks for any info you can provide regarding the manufacturing dates. Bob

The scarab was Steve’s first acoustic version of what later became the bug bass2. Same shape as the last model bug bass he made but acoustic and with spruce tops. There were some floating top scarabs made as well which have a separation between the top and the body to act as a sound hole.

The bugbass 2 you pictured looks to be near the final iteration (and my favourite) of all the bug basses. The carved bug bass 2; They has fully carved tops, backs and sides, integrated sound bar and post under the bridge just like a full size upright. Yours however has a flat back with a detail around the back panel. Like a cross between a scarab and a carved bugbass 2 I think. Amazing bases IMHO

I have a funny Azola related story. I played a gig last weekend with a singer songwriter at our local county fair. This is a big one that draws people from all over. I'm sitting in the backstage area, that is framed walls with conduit running through it. I look to my right and see an Azola side bout extension hanging from the conduit. This is your typical country fair.... not a lot of jazz or latin music. I remembered that there is a salsa band that usually plays every year on one of the free stages. I am friends with the guy on Facebook (not local), so I sent him a message and sure enough, he left it there 2 years ago. They are playing on Friday so he gets to pick it up then.

howdy folks, back in the Azola fold (after I sold my Scarab to Armybass several years ago).
Had an itch to scratch, and picked up this one.

I'm getting acquainted.
Action is a little higher than I am used to, but other than that, It's been fun to play upright again (sold my DB a year or so ago) Muscle memory definitely still intact.
