I don't have any experience with the Sendel basses, but, aside from the Azola basses (which are in a different price range), I feel that the MOG sounds closest to the originals than all the copies that I've played. It isn't exact though. The Blady sounded nice too, but I felt was slightly less punchy and had more sustain.

To all of you who are skeptical about purchasing one of these fine instruments from Colombia. Off the Bat Andres Mauricio was very helpful and understanding when I bombarded him with all my questions. From start to finish I was always in the loop as to the progress of the bass. The bass was shipped via fedex and was packaged accordingly. It took about 25 minutes between putting it together and tunning it before I was playing sweet Salsa with my new M.O.G BABY BASS.
I would not hesitate to purchase from Andres as I already have ordered my second Baby Bass in White

Some of their basses are straight Ampeg replicas, some have smaller bodies and headless necks, and some of them are quite futuristic, often finished in bright metallic paint.

I can´t say how they stand up to vintage Ampeg or new Azola or Ramirez basses, but the fact that one small Colombian town holds four bass makers is intriguing. I suspect there may be even more such bass makers in Latin America - I have seen several offering "baby basses", but then again it´s quite often used as a synonym for EUB.

(Pls no jokes about crack in the necks and other references to Colombian pharmaceutical export...)

I use to own an ampeg BB and sold it years ago, I now own a colombian made MOG baby bass and love it.

La Bella makes wonderful strings and from what I've been told Oscar De Leon uses them. Supernil Ampeg Baby Bass strings. They have that real punchy Latin sound! Very cool for Cuban or Salsa Music! I'm awaiting the arrival of my M.O.G. Bass. I can't wait. From what I've heard these basses are the best new EUB for Latin/Cuban music! I can't wait!

I live in Miami and play salsa, latin jazz and jazz. I recently purchased an M.O.G baby bass and I have been very pleased with the instrument. I use to own a true ampeg and have tried ray ramirez bass which is a great instrument, Sendel bass also a good instrument but I thought I got my moneys worth with M.O.G, it compares very well to the ampeg in my opinion.:bassist:

Sincerelly ,i don`t know the sound from these strings ....
i buy THOMASTIK (Superflex ,and Spirocore) ,and now , LA BELLA Black Nylon strings...
Respect La bella black Nylon ,the sound generate for this strings is perfect to play with my basses ,an i reccomended highly this ...
I`ll be intent buy/mounting the Supernil for tests ... (i see the La bella catalog ,but not mentioned any refference that says :for ampeg baby bass ,like the Black Nylon....) :hmm:

Finally, today I received my new M.O.G BB!!! Thanx to Andres Ortega for a nice piece of work. Unfortunately the f***ing customers damaged the package, so it became a bit scratched on the surface of the body - but nothing to write home about. It took me less than 30 minutes to get it playable, and now I can't wait 'til I get to plug it in to my amp. Andres put those black Labella nylon strings on, and the feeling is really soft. I'll get back with a review within a couple of weeks after trying my new baby out live in i PA system.

hi...
any months ago ,i called to the Customs office in the airport in Bogotà for prevent this problems with the boxes, and i sended via fax, all necessaries documents for constat the legally of this little factory ...:-)

i offer any warranties in this, during the trip :
- aluminium pieces broken/loosed
- peg loosed
- soft case damaged

the buyer must pay the shipping costs...:cool:
