Bacchus, Show 'em if you've got 'em!

I really liked my 24 but found it a bit 'light' in the lower mids - it sounded very Ken Smith like which was great but I think I would have got on better with an ash body rather than alder. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Build wise it was top notch, flawless. The chap I sold it to loves it to bits.

I think I was a bit spoilt by my first Bacchus, the jazz bass 02STRONG which was more 'me' so as ever YMMV etc. I have some sound clips if anyone is interested, though I can't remember if I have posted them already?

The verdict:

This is the best bass you can buy new in Australia for the money, I **** you not.

This is not a honeymoon period because I never really had high hopes for this bass. The quality is astounding and the onboard EQ is fantastic, and it records so well, it is rock solid and big sounding. Quite versatile and the slap sound is very nice. It might become my main bass when I don't need the high C, it looks amazing, very striking and would look great on stage. I'll try and upload some photos asap, have had no time.

Considering a Fender with onboard EQ would be well over 2 grand, this bass absolutely smashes the Fender MIA I owned, as well as the Lakland Skys . It's not as good as a Sadowsky Metro, but it's close, and it's half the price.

This bass, this brand, these builders and Japanese Vintage Guitars in particular are highly recommended. The packing was amazing, it came with a Bacchus baseball cap, 2nd set of strings, a heavy pick, cleaning cloth and a few other little things.

Dunno about the fretless stuff, as Rick said, get in touch with JVG, they are very cool people, they were even nice to me when I was really drunk, twice.

Hello,

I'm new to Bacchus and didn't know those basses til yesterday.
:)

I could score a beautiful second hand Bacchus Woodline ash 5 with ebony fingerboard.

Problem is that I realy don't know what to expect from the ash/ebony combo in a Bacchus JB.

I'm usualy a ash/maple guy and never tried a bass with ebony.

I'm looking for a very growly jazz and above all a slap machine to get that Marcus tone my modern basses can't immitate.

Before noticing Bacchus, I was about to try a Lakland DJ5 with maple FB or was trying to catch a used Sadowsky metro MV5 but those Bacchus realy seems to get a lot of good coments.

So do you think that a ash/ebony woodline 5 could drive me where I want to go ?

It's downsized, I don't think they actually make a full sized J body, not on the Japanese models anyway.

I have a 02 Standard 5 with the Ash/Ebony setup. It's the #1 bass I have, the one I go to when the time to mess around has ended and I just want to plug in and have the tone. The Woodline is passive, if you're looking for that active zing you may not find it without some mods, but if passive will do I find it hard to imagine you'll find fault in the Woodline.

How are the Universe BJBs? I just found that one would be 520NZD

A MIM jazz is 1200NZD. Would the bacchus be better, & is it even possible to export?

pretty sweet...not really that much more than a VM Squier...although, these days, I probably would put a VM Squier on par with a MIM Fender.

I really dig the bacchus, however...the 5-string Universe Maple/Ash is a pretty sweet axe and for only $AU 720...you can't get THAT in a Squier at any price...
