Silly stuff...There's nothing wrong with the poly finishes on the sadowsky basses and they protect the wood a lot better than oil or a thin coat of lacquer and they're better for the environment.
No, not silly at all.
Sadowsky charges extra for a nitro finish on the New York built models. UPGRADE
I'll put up with a poly finish on a budget instrument, but not on something high end. Sorry, that's just my personal preferance. When I'm spending over a grand, I want things to be
exactly the way I want them. That would exclude poly finished instruments for me. I'd seriously have to hold my nose to fork over large money for a plastic coated instrment, and I'd always be wondering why they cheaped out instead of giving it what I consider to be a proper instrument grade finish.
You don't see Martin, Gibosn, or any other high end acoustic instruments finished with poly now do you?
You can argue untill the end of time wheather or not it makes a difference on a bass guitar. What you can't argue is what I want once we get above a certain price point.

IMO, at the Metro price point, poly is unacceptable.
Buying a bass made completely of plastic would be better for the enviornment than cutting down trees too, but I don't see everyone rushing out to buy plastic or synthetic basses.
My basses get worked pretty hard. A ding in poly vs. a ding in nitro really doesn't make a hill of beans difference to me either way. Nitro just plain feels and looks better to me. Poly is a comprimise no matter which way you slice it.
IMO Poly = Cheap.
Lucky for me, my Bacchus has a gorgeous Nitro finsh. That certainly was a factor in my choosing it over everything else on the market.
