Suggestion:

One reason these Bach selections will take time to master is that you will need to figure out the fingerings that work for you to play these pieces fast and smooth. Your fingerings will evolve with time as you discover better ways to play a particular passage.

So:

Photocopy the piece you are working on and mark up the copy, not the original in eraseable pencil. Efficient practice has two steps. 1 ) figure out the best way to play it, and 2 ) practice it the same way perfectly, unless you discover a better way to play it, in which case mark up the sheet in pencil.

Dont do this to the original.

My father played the Chaconne on guitar via Segovia arrangement.

Bravo. Excellent performance. Bach's Flute Partita in A minor is available for free at Mutopia. The Corrente is what you heard.

I'm generally pretty open minded about what people play and I get that Bach was great. No question. However, I've always been of two minds about the usefulness of learning Bach on bass. I did learn the usual cello suite in G Major, but I don't feel like I got a thing out of it. There are plenty of other technically challenging songs out there that I personally feel affect my playing way more directly.

The rewards of practicing Bach on bass are many. If you choose something else as a challenge, nothing wrong that. Go grab the Omnibook....only about 3 lifetimes worth of stuff in that.



But I agree the Mr Berlin's aesthetic choice for the said Bach piece....is to put it mildly....imo..... horrible beyond comprehension. I can't listen to more than 1. 1244444667 secs of it. He is a virtuoso player no doubt.....but.....his ablums.....for me...zzzzZzZz.
